But, you have pets or small children or if you feel unsafe about snakes AND you think it may cause harm to you, your pets etc. DO what you have to do. (I had a dog die that was bitten by a copperhead) BTW, those are beautiful snakes guys. Quote
Lightninrod Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Wonderful pics and info Rowland. I collected and kept non-poisonous snakes when I was a teenager. This was in and around the Everglades and South Florida. I had a dozen or more in cages in my bedroom. My favorite was the Indigo. It is the only snake I know of that will not bite a human. They will pretend to hurt you by pressing the hardened end of their tail into your flesh but won't bite. I caught water snakes out of the canals on the edge of the Glades as well as corn/rat snakes out of the Australian Pines that bordered the canals. King snakes were common too. Also caught a 6' Coachwhip on my aunt's farm in Tallahassee, Florida and only because it was in the shedding phase and couldn't see. They are very quick. Eastern Indigo snake. Dan Quote
Super User Micro Posted September 16, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 16, 2007 From what I understand Coachwhips are the pissiest snakes God ever made. I've never caught one, we don't have them in Virginia. But I've seen captive snakes and they are gorgeous. Indigos are Federally protected throughout their range. Best not to mess with them lest you want to pay a hefty fine. Indigos are the largest snake native to North America (though I personally think Bulls Snake may get larger). They don't constrict their prey, rather they simply grasp it and chew it to death or swwallow it alive. There is a video on the net of an Indigo killing and eating a Pygmy Rattler: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6676217127042665164&q=indigo+snake&total=19&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2 Quote

Super User Root beer Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 Basshunter, we have something in common. I'm also slightly hearing impair. Far as snake, I dont like snakes so I just avoid them. All I know is snakes aren't vicious, but if they feel threaten they'll bite. Lot of snake bites are accident. People dont see them and walk right by them, then they feel threaten and bite them. If I see a snake I usually just at all cost avoid them. One night down on the black warrior river in Alabama we was in a night tournament I saw two green beady eyes crawling toward the boat. Freaked me out. Lets just say a few cuss words went flying. Super User Root beer Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Haha, a road trip is a possible. Right now I'm living in Tennessee (I graduate in may from high school.) Pretty much all of my families are still in Tuscaloosa area. Cant wait come back to Alabama. We'll take a trip deep into heart of black warrior and sipsey where the real snakes live. Sipsey is loaded with snakes. Take tons of snake and bass pictures for the fellas on this forum. ;D Dont mean to semi-hijack this thread. But really those who loves snakes go fishing on sispey river. That place is so small you need a john boat to get around, but it also loaded with snakes and 4 pound average bass. Quote
BassHunter69 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 sounds like a great time to me. i'm not nuts about snakes i like the fish better but i do find them mildly interesting especially the ones who eat rattlers ;D ;D ;D Quote
