Super User Catt Posted September 8, 2007 Super User Posted September 8, 2007 Man there has been some close calls with members dodging the bullet lately and here's mine. Last night I was cooking supper and my wife had placed a 10 quart heavy glass bowl on the stove because it's too heavy for her to reach the top cabinet where it belongs. I had just place a pot on the stove to boil some water and turned the burner on high and then starting making tea in the coffee pot next to the stove. I walked about 10' to the pantry to get the tea when there was a huge explosion scaring the crap out of me. I turned around realizing I had turned the burner on under the glass bowl and it had exploded in the hundreds of pieces flying all over the kitchen. Had I not walked away to get the tea I would have been standing at the stove and it wouldn't have been a pretty picture since glass had bounced off the ceiling. Thank you lord Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 8, 2007 Super User Posted September 8, 2007 Glad to hear your ok catt. I don't want to hear about any more "close calls" yall This place wouldn't be the same with out you guys. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 8, 2007 Super User Posted September 8, 2007 Tommy, You watch your backside buddy. We still got some fishing to do. Matt Quote
FishingBuds Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Ya got that right Catt, I've seen what glass can do to someone too many times. I make windows for a living. Glass will do anything, we sill ours with a oven and that stuff doesn't cool down quickly, I can imagine what the heat would've done as well to ya. Your stove accident reminds me of a bad stove fire that happened to us last year. It was right on the line on calling the fire dept. When fire gets that big it doesn't smother out very well Glad you or anyone else wasn't hurt. And I noticed your at 3000 post big dog ;D Quote

Zel Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Just curious... did everyone experiencing these close calls get a mook shirt? Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted September 9, 2007 Super User Posted September 9, 2007 To quote Forest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does." Fortunately, I've never done anything stupid in the kitchen; unless you count time when I put a skillet on the burner to melt some butter and then forgot about it for about an hour or so. My first clue was when I smelled the handle melting off the skillet. Quote
skillet Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Glad you're OK!! I'm really bad about turning on the wrong burner myself ... As Ever, skillet Quote

John J. Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Good to hear your ok Catt, but here's another (wouldn't say close call but more of an incident). My truck needed its oil changed bad so I got my bro to help me out. My truck sat really low to the gravel where we were changing the oil. We tried to put it up on ramps but everytime I hit the gas to get it up the ramp, my truck would just spin tires in the gravel (it's a 2wd). Anyway, we got working on the truck without the ramps and it was really close to the ground. I crawled under the truck on my back and so did my bro. I was watching what he was doing (he was teaching me...never knew how to change oil lol) and when it was all done it was time to scoot out. But when I went to scoot out my nose almost touched the underside of my truck and I felt very closter-phobic. I went into a quick panic and wanted to get out from under the truck at any cause. And I did this by reaching up under the truck to push myself out, and when I did I put my right hand on the exhaust pipe to push off! :o :o :o :o Must I say I got a pretty bad burn from that!!! It happened a week ago (a week ago tomorrow), and I am still feeling the sting. Right under my thumb is tender and I had a blister about a half an inch long by a quarter of an inch wide. And right below it I have another blister that's 1/4 inch X 1/4 inch. The rest of my palm just recieved a 1st degree burn and it has healed. But those two spots got a nice 2nd degree burn. Lesson learnt: Never touch nothing underneath the truck!!! ;D : Despite me pushing off for no more than 1 second, I recieved a bad enough burn to last one whole week. It is difficult to grasp a pencil without feeling a sting, but I basically suck it up and grasp it and write. Holding a pole is the same deal, when the stock touches that part it stings, but I say to myself, "When I catch a bass, it is worth it!". Quote
