Super User Matt Fly Posted May 8, 2008 Super User Posted May 8, 2008 I haven't seen clear water in along time. Been fishing stained, very stained water at best this year. No complaints, that means mother nature gave us much need rains leading into summer. I need a refresher course on clear water baits as well. I down size my line to begin with. I like translucent baits that are small, sometimes rigged with tiny splitshots. Quote
Denea Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I have always had success using a variety of Mister Twisters in clear water of 2ft or less. Or are Twisters considered a lure and not a bait? Quote
djmax22 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I fish several clear lakes some of which are gin clear. One of the biggest things you can do is to use fluorocarbon line. In shallow water I also like to use the lightest weight possible. Spinnerbaits (natural shad color) and weightless worms usually work well for me. Quote
jaystraw Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I fish mostly clear water. I use 6-8 pound test, and natural colors in my bait. Rapalas in silver and black or gold and black depending on the lake. I also use 4'' senkos in Green pumpkin and black flake. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 8, 2008 Super User Posted May 8, 2008 In shallow water, a Slug-Go, weightless, worked to look like a feeding minnow. Basically, twitching the bait. 8-) Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 In clear water I fish lighter line (fluoro) and smaller baits. I like to use jerkbaits and senkos mostly. Stick with natural colors (watermelon, green pumpkin ect.) Quote
Bass XL Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I like drop shoting with small, watermelon colored worms. Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 8, 2008 Super User Posted May 8, 2008 In shallow water, a Slug-Go, weightless, worked to look like a feeding minnow. Basically, twitching the bait. 8-) OOOOOOOOOO yes. In either the whites (White Ice, Pearl, Albino Shad) or Watermelon. Hey RW, we acctually agree on something? ;D Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 8, 2008 Super User Posted May 8, 2008 any tips on baits to fish in clear shallow water ? My experience is that a full variety of lures will catch fish in clear water. I fish a lot of clear water and I use crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Chatterbait-style, topwaters and soft plastics. Fish are said to spook more easily in clear water, and maybe that's true, but I don't think I catch any fewer in clear water than stained. Quote
