That really sucks!! I hate to say it, but the cop is probably right. A couple months ago some low life stole all bshaner's equipment and slashed the tires on his trailer. The insurance company gave him the run-around because he didn't have receipts for everything. It ended up costing him ALOT of money replacing all his rods and reels.

Good luck, I hope you can recover at least some of your stuff.

I think the Bait Monkey is up to new tactics.  He has an organization now . . . . . The Family, if you will.  He has hired a number of thugs to do his bidding.  They go out and steal fishing equipment from those of us who are vulnerable so that we will spend even more to replace our stuff.  ;)

Bad news.  Sorry to hear it.  I can imagine you're pretty ticked off about it.  I know I would be.

It's a pain in the rear, but I now carry everything into the basement when I am done for the day. I don't carry excess tackle in the boat anymore for this reason. Those Meth boys around here know what value fishing equipment has and target it frequently. If you need anything quickly, maybe some of us can help.

That stinks. I have never been able to figure out why some low life would want to steal fishing equipment. Sorry about the loss.

Between meth, high gas prices, and everything else, nothing is safe.  People in very nice neighborhoods in our small town (under 5,000) are waking up to find their SUV's and cars on blocks.  I have a padlock on my back gate, but I guess I need to put a lock on my shed.

Locally we had a rash of thieves targeting copper tubing on airconditioning units at several churches in the Memphis area. $5000- $10,000 damage (loss) for maybe $15-$20 salvage value = maybe a pipe or two of crack or meth. It's all (or mostly) about drugs.

Try getting a neighborhood watch going. The best thing to do...neighbors need to watch out for each other.

We had someone try and steal our  units when our new church building was complete.  Fortunately we had bolted them down and they only stole the pipes connecting them.  There is nothing that burns me up more than people who steal.  GET A JOB like the rest of us!! >:(

i know the feeling one gets when you see nothing where there should be something

which do you feel first?

the rage, or the sick feeling in the pit of your gut?

Posted

For me, the sick feeling. I remember having my leather jacket with my car keys in it stolen at a comedy club 40 miles from home. Not fun. Having all your fishing gear stolen is much worse though.

Sorry about your loss. I can't imagine how much that must stink. It is always a good idea to have pictures of your tackle and any receipts for insurance processing.

True Story:

I was leaving with my brother in Texarkana, Tx when this happend about 3 years ago.  We had an employee that had access to our shop (auto shop he was trustworthy so we thought so he got a set of keys, like a manager you know) go in one night and steal my brothers boat.  Which I might add had all of his tackle in it.  Then about a year and a half later we read in the paper about a guy that was shot in his house when a drug deal went bad.  He was shot in the leg and he called the cops.  When the cops got there, they looked around and noticed ATVS, mortorcycles,  lawnmowers, boats and other things of this nature.  Including a bass boat.  About 2 or three o'clock my brother got a call from the Arkansas state police saying "hey!  we found your boat!  Can you describe it for us?"  Obviously he could and he got all of his stuff back.  They did however try to strip the motor but hell, we worked on cars for a living so that was no big deal.

The moral of the story is dont give up.  Be optimistic.  I know it sucks but hang in there.

I'm lucky enough to have a small room in my house that is accessable only from my garage.  If some puke wants to break into my home and steal my TV, it's a pretty safe bet that he won't find my fishing gear.

Just unbelievable how low some people will go.

It's all (or mostly) about drugs

Which is why I have no tolerance for people who do drugs.

GET A JOB like the rest of us!! Angry

That's too hard.  Its easier to steal from people who have

a job and work hard.  Besides, most of these guys probably

have rap sheets that prevent them from getting a good job.

Recently we had four guys arrested for stripping unused offices

in a mill in which they worked for whatever metal they could find.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage and destruction.

Talk about trusted employees :o

There have been several break ins at the ramps around Guntersville and Scottsboro. I thought it was dope heads, but one night the Scottsboro police caught 3 men red handed. Two of them were Little League (Dixie Youth) coaches!!! They had been breaking into trucks at the ramps and selling stuff on eBay. You never know who the bad guys are anymore. >:(

I agree about the too hard to get a job but even if they can't and I really hate to say this but there is welfare and it don't sem like anyone else hesitates to use it anymore so why don't criminals do it. Or better yet they could just get themselves caught then they would at least get 3 hot meals a day in prison and that would be easier no everyone nah wait I got an even better idea they need to all be arrested and once they are then we need to get em all in a chain gang and make em walk down along all the rivers, cricks, lakes, ponds and any other bodies of water that have garbage around them and they should be made to pick every last piece up then they can count that as community service even though I think that they should never be left out anyway but I'm sure they would have to be so even if they do got rapsheets they can still get a job and be of some asset to society.

It's a nationwide problem.  CSX railroad has placed signs near boxes warning copper thieves of high voltage as well as the number of people killed along railroad tracks stealing copper.  Copper prices are apparently very high right now.
