I didnt hear anything about this until today. This will surely be a huge News topic for the next few days. Headlines "Nuclear bombs mistakenly flown over USA". A B-52 bomber was mistakenly armed with six nuclear warheads and flown for more than three hours across several states last week. Read more about it here.

Don 't know why you get so scared, there are thousands of people living with nuclear missile silos literally on their backyard or a stone cast from an Air Force base stuffed with those munster sized firecrackers.

I'm with Raul on this one.

Sounds like yet another example of the media making much ado nothing.  Not that having planes with nuclear weapons flying over your house is nothing.  but trust me.,.....it is definitely nothing new.

Part of the "Triad" defense matrix developed by Curtis LeMay to thwart a surprise Soviet nuclear attack was to have

1. Land based movable missles in hardened silos

2. Nuclear armed B-52's in the air above the US and strategic locations around the world 24/7

3. Nuclear armed submarines powerful enough to completely destroy the Soviet Union in the event of an all out surprise nuclear attack.  The acronym for the policy was "MAD" or Mutually Assured Destruction.  Many people thought it completely insane.  One slip of the trigger  would end all life on the planet. Indeed there were a couple of close calls.

The fly in the ointment is that it worked.

We can only hope that the policies devised to deal with the current threat of non nation states determined to annihilate us are equally successful.

If I were the United States of America government and after having a very bad experience with UPS delivering my GPS unit to the WRONG adress I would seriously think twice 'bout shipping them nukes by UPS, who knows they may deliver them to Iran ........ FEDEX gets my vote, never had any problems with FEDEX.

I have no problem with them flying over my head.  It's just the fact that it was a mistake.  Mistakes can be extremely  deadly, especially if nukes are involved.

On highway 65 south of I-70 in Missouri,  on the way to Truman lake for those of you that go that way,  there are several minuteman underground silo's VERY close to the road along there. You can see them as you go down the highway.

This subject made the NBC news this evening.  Apparently it was a major screw-up.  The commander in charge of this debacle was relieved of duty.

I think the point was no one knew till after the fact "Like hey were missing 10 nukes and have no clue where they are " good thing Allah didn't have um we wouldn't be here to type this... BTW to anyone thinking we shouldnt take things too serious WTH are u thinking .I guess they shoulda took the 3 plane to hit the pentagon as a random plane crash too

First off the B-52 was loaded with nukes not armed with nukes, the word armed is very misleading and was attached to the article to make it sound worse than it was. Even with bombs onboard the bombs themselves were not armed; another choice of words the liberal media uses to scare the public. Believe me there are more dangerous things being hauled on our highways daily.

Question: Why make this public?

So, a military screw-up, not unlike an everyday occurance in the private sector. No harm/ no foul.

Discipline responsible parties INTERNALLY. Why was this released to the media? Perhaps someone's agenda?

This "news" is a non-event and should never have been announced or formally confirmed.

Amen Long Mike. When you get to be our age you realize just how important that can be.

Why is it that whenever there is a report criticizing the military it's always the "liberal media" that does it.

Excuse me Catt, nothing personal but just what is it driving down your highways that is more dangerous than plutonium?  Oh. and please tell me it's not the highway leading to lake fork.

Mistakes can be extremely deadly,

No offense intended hookemdown, but I always kinda chuckle at statements like this.

I mean how dead is something before it is EXTREMELY dead?

Avid ever notice those little diamond shaped signs on trucks?  ;)

They give you a pretty little picture when in reality these chemicals being hauled are corrosive, explosive, toxic, carcinogenic and radioactive chemicals and they are hauled across this nation daily.

Keep in mind this bombs were not ARMED with a detonator, they were simply loaded into the bomb bay of a B-52 and at worst if the plane had crashed you would have had a radioactive spill.
