Guest avid Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Well, all the Beckham hype for the building up of soccer for this country and he has hurt his knee already and will be out for about 8 wks. Did you ever notice that whether it be soccer, football, etc., when a guy signs a huge money contract, a lot of times they last for a brief period and then they are hurt. I would bet that if the contracts would change a bit to include ---If injured, X amount of $--- will be taken per period while you are off with a injury, there would be less major injuries? I'll bet you that if you tried to put a clause in the contract of an athlete with the star power of a David Beckham, you be looking at his back while he laughed his way to sign with another team. Guest the_muddy_man Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 How about this; 2 starts ago Clemmens never made it outta the first inning; he gave up 8 runs, only getting 2 out. Total cost to the Yakees that inning( and they deserved it) 3.1 million Quote

Jim, I think you were a UPS manager in a former life.... ;D Quote
CJ Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 One way to see this is that when a superstar signs a big contract,he hurts him or herself trying to please his/her fans and owners.Just playing to hard can take a toll on the body.In other words, trying to do to much.MLB pitchers are a prime example. Super User Matt Fly Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 He's good, and has a trophy wife to boot, but him nor his wife will save soccer in America. Thats Hype for ya!!!! Matt Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 Soccer will never catch on in America. Too many parents drag their kids to it every week (like myself) and get burt out on it, so do the kids. As far as the hype on sports, that's what the fans pay for. They will support a winner and ignore a loser. Once the hype is over, the fans are gone. Quote
Guest avid Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Soccer is a great game and more people are discovering that fact everyday. There is one Humongous obstacle that will prevent soccer from ever really taking off in America. Where do you put the commercials? Seriously. No time outs. no change of innings. No switching from offense to defense. Except for when a player goes down, there is no time to schedule commercials. EQUALS = Kiss of death for anything requiring TV coverage. Quote
