Hello,

I am looking for one person who would like to join the BassResource.com team, right along the ranks of the moderators.  This is not a new moderator position, however.  This has to do with the rest of the site.  Namely, the protection of copyrighted material.

Since its ***, BassResource.com has vigorously defended its copyrights.  The Internet makes it all too easy for somebody to copy and paste an article, in its entirety or in part, and then republish it on their website, often claiming the content as their own.  This is nothing new - it's been happening since the site launched.  I have been the one finding the offenders and enforcing our copyright ownership and protecting our brand.  Over the years, I have filed thousands of complaints, and won them all - sometimes resulting in the elimination of the offending sites.  Several hundred have been shut down over the past decade as a result.

I take copyright infringement seriously.  Those that steal from my site, pay dearly.

That said, a disturbing trend has surfaced on the internet that involves splogs, scrapers, feeds and other technological advanced tools that are doing this automatically at an alarming rate. Suffice to say, I cannot keep up with the volume of copyright violations.  I need help.

I'm looking for a voluteer who has the following qualifications:

• Very technically adept - experience with advanced search techniques is a must as is knowledge/experience with various web codes (HTML, Javascript, ASP, etc.). Knowledge/use of RSS feeds, alerts, etc. a plus.
  
• Willingness/ability to work on this daily at least 1-2 hours on average.
  
• This is a long-term comittment.  Only qualified individuals who wish to do this over the long haul will be considered.
  
•  A passion for this site is a must.
  
•  Knowledge of electronic copyright/trademark laws a plus, but not mandatory
  

I will provide you with the means/tools to seek out copyright infringement and the offendors behind them - especially those that try to hide their identity (they can't hide). You will also be given the means to shut down the sites, remove them from all the major search engines, and remove them from Google AdSense, Yahoo's Publisher Network, Commission Junction, AdBrite, etc.  I will provide guidance, tools, and training every step of the way.

If you like to bust the bad guys, this can be a very rewarding and fun experience - PROVIDED you understand that occasionally you WILL encounter the defiant, abusive person who believes they have a right to steal your content (because they believe everything on the Internet is free for the taking).  They don't believe copyright laws apply to them. These are the ones that are fun to shut down.

I wish you luck in finding the appropriate candidate Glenn. I wish I had more of a technical background to help but, unfortunatly I do not. I am sure you will find someone in here. The basic reason I had written you is my friend has a site and is co-owner of www.mobilepathways.com/default.htmlhaving to do with his civilian run para military solutions, as well as, civilian power solutions for portable power for laptops, communications and such. We were just talking recently about his problems on his site and he mentioned the exact same thing you were talking about, copyright infringments. He said its hard to keep up with it all. He hired a young main right out of a two year college program whom he raves about. Maybe something to look into on your end and hit up the local community college. It could be experiance for him or her and help for your problem as well.---Jim

Good Luck in your search Glenn. As I have allot of experience in handling patents and trademark illustrations that is where my expertise ends. I hope you find someone that will come aboard and fit in nicely.

I'm pleased to announce that Ghoti (Gary) has accepted the position!  Gary has deep experience in computer technology and understands the processes involved for cracking down on copyright violators.  He's also a LONG time member here who's become part of the "family".  Please help me in congratulating him on his new role!

I also want to thank everyone who expressed interest in this role.  There's a lot of talented and dedicated people here, so the decision was difficult to make.  There will be additional opportunties in the months to come, so I encourage those who applied to take advantage of those openings when they occur.

Thanks everybody. I'm joining a great team. These guys have set the bar pretty high, and, while I won't be jumping over it anytime soon, I promise to not knock it down.

Muddy Man, I wore the shirt to school one day last week, while the campus was closed for the Farm Progress Show. Got a lot of comments. The most common was "what the heck's a mook?"

Global Computer Mook sounds just right.

Avid, the wife has narrowed her search, and plans are almost set. As soon as she has it all nailed down, you'll be the second one to know. She's been looking at fishing on some of the lakes on Disney property, and is getting stoked. She wants to fish one day; I'll probably do two. If you come along the day she goes, be prepared to be whooped. She does it to me all the time.

I'm looking forward to the new challenges.
