RWHusker. Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 It's Friday and I can hardly wait for tomorrow and opening Kick Off Nebraska vs. Nevada!! As I prepare mentally and emotionally for the upcoming season I'm excited to the point of being hard to be around. My secretary would just as soon have me at home with a day off as my mind is far from productivity at my office. So that brings me to my question, what do you all take to your tailgate parties? The menu for tomorrow will consist of Brats, Jalapeno Brats, Hot Links, Ribs, Potato Salad, and Chips. My wife will make some form of a cool desert and we will feed between 12 to 15 friends and family. As the weather cools I always make a crock-pot full of chili for chili burgers or chili dogs, btw it'll stand on its own as well. When we have Colorado at home me make Buffalo Burgers, When Kansas comes we have Chicken, Texas is beef, you get the idea. How about the rest of you fans? GO BIG RED Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Brats are a must! Potato salad has been on the menu before. But we like bringing steaks, shrimp cocktail, chips and dip, chips and salsa, hot dogs, polish sausages, sometimes chicken. Thats about it. Don't forget the beer, beer, beer and the occassional soda. I mostly tailgate to skins games (though I'm not a skins fan), and sometimes have tailgated at concerts. I'm not a big college football fan. I watch the bowl games and stuff and the bigger matchups or when my fiancees team (Penn State) is playing, she'll occasionally turn on the game. When I do watch I root for BC (Boston College), Clemson, or Michigan. Boston College is a hometeam of mine (born and raised in Boston, Go Bo-Sox), Clemson and Michigan are just two of the teams I know a little more about because some of my favorite NFL players have come out of there (mostly quarterbacks), me being a Denver Fan and all. Hey Chicago START BRIAN GRIESE DANG ON IT!!! Quote
Zel Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 At least 3 staples, all the rest is add-ons: BARBECUED CHICKEN Purdue chick thighs which are really moist (okay throw a couple of breasts in also for those who will only eat white meat) marinated (and massaged at least twice) for at least 12 hours in a Jack Daniels Barbecue Sauce, then cooked over a charcoal fire. JD Barbecue Sauce ingredients: Jack Daniels, about 1/2 to 3/4 cup, or to taste 1/2 cup chopped onion 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped 2 cups ketchup 1/3 cup vinegar 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed 3/4 cup molasses 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/2 tablespoon salt 1/4 cup tomato paste 1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke (optional) 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce, or to taste Preparation: Combine onion, garlic and Jack Daniels in a 3 quart saucepan. Saut é until translucent, about 10 minutes. Add all remaining ingredients, bring to boil. Simmer uncovered until reduced and thickened, about 15 to 25 minutes. Add more Jack Daniels if a stronger flavor is desired. --------------------------- BRATS... but they got to be the white ones, covered in saut éed onions and yellow mustard on steak rolls. --------------------------- As a self-proclaimed POTATO SALAD connoisseur, you just can't beat the Betty Crocker Old-Fashioned Potato Salad recipe but you've got to follow the recipe EXACLY, and key to great flavor is using all same sized potatoes-red, and peeling the skins AFTER they are cooked. No such thing as leftovers. GO PENN STATE Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 31, 2007 Super User Posted August 31, 2007 BEER AND WINGS!!!!!!!!!! I have just recently started to have a few beers on occasion. Since college, I have grown out of just drinking to drink. Now, I enjoy having one here and there just to sample different varieties. Right now in my fridge, I am enjoying a Samuel Adams summer sampler. Hefeweizen, Cherry Wheat, Lager, Light, Summer Ale and Pale Ale. Havent had a bad one yet. I will be eating massive amounts of food tomorrow during the PSU game!!!!!!!!! Quote

Zel Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Speedbead, As I'm half Irish, Guinness Stout always held a special place in me heart. But I became allergic to beer about 6 years ago. Sure it's proof God's got a wicked sense of humor! :'( Quote
