justfishin Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Did anyone see the show, " The Tuna Cowboys ", or at least I think thats what it was called. These guys put out these gigantic nets, and trap these tuna. They then coral them. The nets are floating and they hual them back in to shore in the gigantic nets. Divers go in and repair the nets, release sharks and all kind of neat stuff. It was simply amazing. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 23, 2007 Super User Posted August 23, 2007 Very interesting show, I have seen it twice. Tuna Wranglers, whcih is the same same. I have also watched them round up Salmon, yet the Salmon they rounded up I thought was smaller, because they raise the salmon in larger pens close to home, and harvest has needed. Its amazing what we are doing now days. To me, that looks very expensive, yet they do it, so it must be cost effective. Matt Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Amazing nothing,...those are the irresponsible harvesters overseas who have decemated the fishery, especially for the rod and reel angler. There are "quotas" issued for different classes. Per-seine rod & Reel, etc As the fishery declined, "big money" oiled the machine so the rod and reel quotas went down and the per-seiners went up or stayed the same. Eventually, ....NOW,....the season can open and close in a week for rod and reel. Quotas are measured in metric tons Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Hey LBH , me and Avid were talking about those &*&*%$ Netters the other day . When was the last time you saw a blow fish? Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Wow, wasn't quite sure what to expect when I opened this one...lmao ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
justfishin Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 I hear you LBH and, I agree. We sort of have the same delema with the Rockfish ( Striped Bass ) in the Chesapeake Bay. I know they said the catch they would tow in was worth in the millions. Most of the catch go to Japan. Quote

These divers go down and have to wrangle sharks out of the nets. Also, if it wasn't for discovery channel, i would have never seen this method of round-up being used. The world amazes me every day. Ethical or not. Just like I'm amazed at what Mike Vick did. Don't mean I'm for it, just amazed someone would jeopardize his career. Hookem matt Quote
Tom Bass Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Whether you like it or not the "rod and reel" fishermen do not grease the skids of big money when it comes to harvesting the oceans. When they do it'll mean we are all eating beef and chicken.... Quote
justfishin Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 LBH, since you and I are both single, and are chasing women, does that make us Tuna Cowboys? ;D , sorry, I get out of hand sometimes. Quote
