Del from philly Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 The first few outtings of this season I have been working mostly on learning shakey head worm fishing..... So far, i have about 4-5 fish on this technique, and they were all caught on slow days where it seems liek that was the only thing they would hit.... NOW IM GONNA TALK A LITTLE SMACK The GULP shakey worm i thought was terrible. The worm is hard and stiff. It stands up occasionally, but nothing like ROBOWORM's Zipper shakey head. The smell was the worst. I HATE THAT SMELL. It could catch fish all day long (which is doesnt) and i still wouldnt use it. It takes days to come off your hands. It did cast nice, but being as hard as a lead pipe, it better! My opinions, for a first time user....get some 3/16 shakey head jigs and the roboworm zipper shakey head worm THIS TECHNIQUE IS GREAT, JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD WORM! GOOD LUCK! Quote
dumb_dog11 Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I hate the smell of gulp too, and refuse to fish with it for fear of throwing up off the side of the boat Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Gulp! Sucks! I hate it. I only catch catfish bream on it. And the smaller bluegills are constantly pecking at it, so I feel like I have to set the hook every two seconds... I cut it up and let my kids use it for bluegill... I have not caught one bass on Gulp... I haven't tried the gulp alive yet, but based on the other version, I won't. It is hard to find Robo worms where I am, but I have been using Zoom Trick Worms, Zoom Finesse Worms, and Bass Assassin Charm Assassins with very good results. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 25, 2008 Super User Posted April 25, 2008 It is hard to find Robo worms where I am... http://www.roboworm.com/ Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Cool thanks. I'm weird about buying things online though. Eventually I'll find some somewhere, and get them... Quote
guitarkid Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I have seen Bass run up on GULP! and run away. You think the smell is bad, wait till you here this, The bags on 1 particular bag of gulp's zipper, was not fully functioning properly. I then got home and opened up my tackle box to "re-group" so to speak. After opening it I realized that I accidentally left it open. To top it all off, I then zipped it up, and threw it in my back pack to go fishing again at the pond by my house. After unloading the dishwasher, I walked in my room and BAM I saw that the bottom of my backpack was wet and it smelled terrible! This was not normal GULP! smell, it was this plastic-ey white glue smell with GULP! gravy on top of it. This is a true story, sorry to be so long, but the moral of the story is think about 300 times before even thinking of buying GULP! products. -searoach Quote
Infidel. Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 ROBOWORM's Zipper shakey head. Now I know I am just getting technical here but it's not a "shakey head" worm. Its a shaking worm, as in glass and brass shaking. These worms have been around for at least a decade before the shakey head revolution of the last couple of years. But I'm just babeling. I agree with you that the Robo Shakin worms are great for a shakey head. Quote
hawgchaser Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I don't use it for bass BUT the redfish love it! We caught over 200 redfish on black GULP turtle back worms. However, I think we could have used just about anything. Quote
Big-O Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I don't use it for bass BUT the redfish love it! We caught over 200 redfish on black GULP turtle back worms. However, I think we could have used just about anything. Buddy of mine used the same Turtle back worms on Tx coast with some success as well, til he spilled the bucket in the bottom og the boat. He's not too happy about that. On Shakey heads might try the Elaztech worms produced by SKLCo. They are high floaters and can be used over and over. Extremely durable. I don't fish Shakey heads much, but I know many pro's that do (not just SK) and they all swear by them. Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Del from philly Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 What about5 the ZOOM finesse. someone said they use it, but it doesnt float? i just bought some, and gonna try them out...... is it a rule they need to float or no? Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 5, 2008 Super User Posted May 5, 2008 What about5 the ZOOM finesse. someone said they use it, but it doesnt float?i just bought some, and gonna try them out...... is it a rule they need to float or no? The tail end that isn't on the shakey head will just sink after a few seconds. But they have always put fish in the boat for me. One day 5.0 and I were messing around with different shakey/finesse worms, and since I don't fish anything but a Berkely Shakey Head worm (The original not GULP) on a shakey head. Just put it on a Spot Remove and watch what it does in the water. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 6, 2008 Super User Posted May 6, 2008 Catfish love Gulp! products, too. Just thought I would add to the conversation. Quote
Duma Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Frankly im quite shocked with the Gulp bashing....yes it smells disgusting, fair enough. The extra bites you get with it are undeniable though ....in my opinion. Heavily pressured fish? Lethargic fish? Muddy water fish? Undeniable. Quote
Davis Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Frankly im quite shocked with the Gulp bashing....yes it smells disgusting, fair enough. The extra bites you get with it are undeniable though ....in my opinion. Heavily pressured fish? Lethargic fish? Muddy water fish? Undeniable. Will it work? Yes....I actually caught my personal best smallie on a shakey head setup with a Gulp worm. But that was the only thing I have ever caught on GULP. I believe the Berkley original formula worms and plastics are far superior in bringing fish to shore. My results anyway. Others will differ. Quote
Duma Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I suppose everyone has their own opinions and experiences....look at the price of Gulp over regular powerbait products (gulp significantly higher) and its sustainability for few years now. this tells us quite a bit. Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Like I've said before in some GULP bashing thread: GULP is garbage in the lake, but it is the Holy Grail inshore! Quote
Del from philly Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008 put the smell aside, and im still not happy with the stiff gulp worm...its just too stiff..... as for the zoom finesse. I used it the last few days with pretty descent success. Got a nice couple pound fish that was full of eggs! first time for me since i started fishing again....i felt bad for the girl, she seemed like she REALLY didnt want to come in but try the zoom, they work great....nice and flimsy, and they dont float, but you can make it work by using a flat bottom head instead of the rounder shaped shakey head..... --------------------------------------------------------------- THE PERFECT LOW-BUDGET SHAKEY WORM SETUP: Chompers stand up jig- $4.50 for 8 jigs Zoom Finesse worm- $3.80 for 20 worms Quote
