I think it was Avid that post a pool issue recently, if not forgive me but, I have been fighting my pump all week. Now the history

Monday old pump locks up, just humms not turning and its 3 yrs old. :(

Tuesday bought new motor its an A.O. Smith 1.5 horse, put it on and it makes a clinking racket from the motor. Gets hot shuts off :(

Wednesday take it to the pros ::) they put in a new gasket between the housing that holds the trap, take it home and put it on and once again clinking from the motor 10minutes later gets hot and shuts off. >:(

Thursday-the pros still don't know why its doing it-they put the last new motor on. :( >:(

Friday today pick up new motor go home, put it on and clinking sound again and motor gets hot and shuts off. >:( >:(

This is what I know, you can't restrict water flow on a pump, flow

can be restricted by air seeping(being sucked in)

You can have to much water coming in for the pump to handle maybe? :-?

I wonder if my skimmer door needs replaced, its lost the foam siding and doesn't stand up right anymore, just lays back inside the skimmer, could this be my problem :-? causing to much water coming thru :-?

Also when you dry cycle motor it purrs like a kitten, put it on the pool and noisy sucker.

I've notice when the pump runs its got alot of pressure behind it.

I've backed washed, checked any clogged lines or restrictions.

I'm gonna inspect the skimmer for cracks and the hose that goes to the sand trap. Any ideas fellers :-?

I'm going back to the pros tomorrow, need problem fixed and not getting anywhere fast.

I haven't owned a pool in a few years but it sounds like at some point water flow is being restricted to the pump and it begins dry sucking which overheats it.  I realize you say you've backwashed but are you certain you don't have some sort of clog in the line somewhere?  BTW, when was the last time the filter sand (or whatever you're using) was changed?

Changed the sand two years ago and I'm running at 15psi which is correct. I checked out the lines and are fine, I did notice for the first time today that it appears the motor is surgen, there is no air bubbles coming out of the jet. I'm stumped, only thing I can do is start at the skimmer and start replacing parts. :(

Sounds like the pump itself is binding or obstructed.  Check the impeller in the pump housing to see if you have anything stuck in there and if not, spin the shaft and see if it's binding... that's about the only thing(s) that could cause a new motor to quit like that.  (assuming you found no clogs in the return lines)

The skimmer can't let in too much water, the foam piece just (floats the door) creates surface tension/suction for attracting and collecting floating debris.  It doesn't actually restrict the amount of water that goes through the system, it's only purpose is pulling in debris.

Good luck with it... I KNOW how frustrating pool equipment can be...  mine is OOOOOLD!

Man I'm gonna DRIVE MY FRIGGEN RANGER right thru that POOL! >:(

Strange thing, the pump runs quite when you back wash and when you run it on whirlpool(now it supposely does not run thru the sand this way) but, when you run it on filter its noisy-so I was convinced to replace the sand-maybe it just needed it. welp that didn't work either. >:( >:( >:(

today I changed out the electric cord on the pump and a new receptacle, nope still didn't work >:( >:( >:( >:(

I have had it >:(

Only thing left is a new skimmer, and a housing on front of the motor

O.K. maybe not the ranger, I need that

Maybe the lawn mower its cost me money this summer too, you think I could get it up fast enough to wham the FRIGGEN POOL >:(

well thanks anyway fellas, the pool is whipping me butt, I'll check out the propeller again,crap-ola man

Sounds like it could be something wrong with the filter valve?  I don't know what, but if it works everywhere but the filter setting, it could be restricted in there (obstruction, broken flap, etc.).

O.K. maybe a break thru, :-?

I took the motor apart again and checked out the stuff, I went to the garage where I had some old parts(suppose to be bad by the pro's) that I never throw away and compared some parts against each other, I have a old propeller that the shaft is some what 2 to 3inches long, the one we reused on the new motor looks broke off and is only 1/2 inch long, may be the problem :(

I hope :-/

I'm done for the night, same Bat time tomorrow.

Congrats!  I'm starting to think that a pool guy is not so expensive when I figure in my own time and frustration...  I bet you aren't far behind me!  ...lol
