Super User cart7t Posted August 9, 2007 Super User Posted August 9, 2007 If you're going to accept this as a legitimate record then I'd suggest letting Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame. Why should anyone care? Baseball withholding Rose's membership into the hall over the gambling charges is a joke if they turn around and close their eyes while dozens of players are shooting up. Yeah but wasn't there physical evidence that Rose bet on baseball? I'm not saying it's fair that Bonds gets to hold the record but if there's no physical evidence of steroid use and he won't admit to it you can't take the number away. Quote
GoBlue80 Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 All i know is that my boy beat the record and it made me smile cuz i know all the haters can't stand it. If u noticed the majority of the ppl accused of using steroids aren't playing anymore. He beat the record i am happy for him he deserves it. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 comparing barry bonds and the homerun record to pete roses gambling and the hall of fame ;D so i guess barry shouldnt get the record cause bill clinton had sexual relations while in office either Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 9, 2007 Super User Posted August 9, 2007 The whole Bonds thing is a joke and an insult to baseball. When I think of the rules that govern baseball, I think of things like pine tar and George Brett, nail files, sandpaper, Vasaline and Phil Neikro, corked bats and Sammy Sossa, etc. Why can't we look at steroids and Barry's elbow device in the same way? There is a reality check when it comes to money and baseball and then there integraty of the game. Somewhere Selig has lost it. Bonds has been excluded from punishment but what about this guy http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/baseball/mlb/11/07/rosejr.drugs/index.html?cnn=yes I don't know the details but Bonds was granted immunity for his grand jury testimony in 2003. When the subject of Bonds and steroids is brought up no one mentions Ken Caminiti. He was the first to admit and he said that his numbers did not lie when it came to how it changed his skill, .283 with 18 home runs and 75 RBI in 1994 to .302/26/94 in 1995 and .326/40/130 in 1996. He admitted to using steroids in 1996 his MVP year. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 9, 2007 Super User Posted August 9, 2007 I agree with Cigarlover, I wish there wasn't all this mystery surrounding the record, but there hasn't been the solid evidence to invalidate it Quote

Corked bats? Why not. Spit balls? Hey sounds good to me. Gambling on baseball games? Hell, at least Pete always gambled on his team to win. MLB sold the integrity of the game off years ago for the almighty buck. Seems to be the American way. Who cares if someone cheated or did something illegal as long as someone made some money off of it. As for Bonds, we now live in a society where no one wants to take responsibility for something they did wrong. McGuire sitting in front of the congressional inquiry board and refusing to answer direct questions was about his own steroid use is as low as it got. Bonds little catch me if you can game is weak. If you enhanced your abilities by the use of drugs, or any device, then admit and let the game deal with it and move on. MLB profited by turning their heads in the late 90's as baseballs were soaring out of the parks at record numbers. They had to get the fans back in the stands somehow after numerous strikes and threatened walkouts over the past years. What a shame that a true sportsman like Aaron had to see his record fall to a drug user. Quote
Guest avid Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I broke a record once. It was the Village people can ya blame me? Of course I had to do it in Greenwich village. Ran like hell. What would you do with a vicious mob of drag queens wanting your head (I mean the big one) I'm telling ya. Just cause a guy is wearing a sequined gown and high heels don't mean he can't move. Feets, don't fail me now Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Avid, something tells me you were on "enhancers" when you broke your record too. ;D Quote
