fish-fighting-illini Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I've noticed that some sellers don't like money orders but take checks and all kinds of other stuff. Why no money orders? I figured they'd be good as gold Maybe people write bad checkks to cover the money order? Seems like that would be a good way to be wearing B&W stripes with big numbers! Quote
Ninerman Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I have seen that too...but I dont think you can write a check to get a money order.... Quote
Super User cart7t Posted August 10, 2007 Super User Posted August 10, 2007 Good question. I haven't ever dealt with anyone on Ebay that did that but I wonder about the logic. Personally, I used to take money orders and stopped. It's a great way around Paypal fees but it adds delays. It also locks out buyers who don't or won't have a Paypal account. OTOH, I can't tell you how many times I had someone wait 3 days to notify me that they finally got a MO and then another day or two to mail it. I finally got fed up and just take Paypal only. Quote
bassnleo Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 My guess would because of all the schemes going around where people are printing up bogus money orders. I've investigated several here, they look really good and it can be really hard to track down the culprits. Quote
Super User flechero Posted August 10, 2007 Super User Posted August 10, 2007 It's a cost and convenience factor, at least it was for me. I quit taking money orders because other then USPS, I have to pay to cash them and my small town banks wouldn't take some of them either. I'd rather have a check and wait a few days for it to clear or cash on their bank if a local branch exists. When you figure safety and the value of your time, Pay Pal is by far the cheapest way to transfer money- if you can't hand someone cash. Quote

Hrmm thats kinda news to me I guess I was under he misguided impression that MOs were just like cash. You get charged by the bank to use them thats a rip off. I agree tho Id rather do Paypal its safe secure and fast. Quote
