FishingBuds Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Had a fella go to the hospital today he's fine now, Doc seems to think he was big time dehidrated. (the plant was 107 inside by 2:00pm) He had Shortness of breath, dizzy, cramps and was cold to the touch when I checked his pulse. I was told oh boy drank 5 diet pepsi's by 10:00 am. - We set gatoraid out by the gallons. I guess he thought his pepsis' were working Keep cool guys best you can, don't forget the proper liquids Quote

justfishin Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Here is a link on Heat Stroke and exhaustion---signs, symptoms and prevention. Also, remember the animals. I have a guy that lives up the street and had three dogs out in this heat in boxes with no shade. I stopped the other week and they had no water. I guess it was none of my buisiness but, I stopped and knocked and told him I had some of those water feeders at the house he could have ( I don't, but, would have bought three ) and told him I noticed his dogs did not have any water. He snapped out on me and told me they were his dogs and to mind my own affairs. His dogs were out all last winter unprotected and now summer. I called the ASPCA and reported him. He had 30 days to give those animals the proper setup. He came to the house and threatened me, yada, yada. I offered to take the dogs. Anyway, they are now under some shade trees, have new houses and water containers. I heard his daughter did not know the situation and found out he was turned in and she was the one whom set them up with new facilitys. He is very old. She came to the house and thanked me and was very nice. Anyhow, if you come across this situation of animals not properly taken care of and in the heat or cold unprotected. Take a stand. http://www.medicinenet.com/heat_stroke/article.htm Quote
Big T Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 It is definately hot. The plant where I work, it was 95 degrees at 4:00 PM and it was still 89 degrees at 9:30 PM. It is supposed to cool off Saturday, if you call 90 degrees cool. Quote

Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted August 9, 2007 Super User Posted August 9, 2007 The main problem with Pepsi is the cafiene will dehydrate you, as will alcohol. My Dr. said the best thing to drink is Gatorade or one of the sports drinks, or lots of water. Falcon Quote

Super User Matt Fly Posted August 9, 2007 Super User Posted August 9, 2007 Texas was blessed in June and July with lots of rain and cloud cover. No 100 degree days in the first month of summer. August is not so promising, forecast calls for 100 degree temps for several days. You can always tell in Texas when its hot, When you see a lizzard crossing the road wearing sandals, you know its hot!!!!!! Ya'll Hookem and dry lots of water. Matt Quote
Bass Hammer Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Crazy hot here in Georgia.......103 today.....7:45pm and it's still 98 Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Too dangerous to take my word on this. I've heard that when you get really dehydrated that electrolytes is the big key. Electrolytes are found i sports drinks. If dangerously low on them water can actualy wash away the only ones keeping you alive. Conceit the fact that your buddy came out with Gatorade vs water might have saved your life. Like I said don't take my word on this ask someone who is trained. Quote

Yep your correct, I went and checked up on the fella that went down, still in the hospital, he hardly had any Electrolytes readings-they pumped him a hole IV pack of Electrolytes-and his wife rubbed on the back of his legs trying to work out the cramps for 45 minutes after the IV pack Doc told him to stay with the gatoraid while he works, maybe water with lunch His heart checked out fine, just simply overheated.
