What's your thoughts on Barry Bonds possibly breaking the record?

I can't stand it, I turn off any game he is on, I turn the news channel if they talk about him. I re-fuse to read most newspaper articles about his record chase.

I did read one about how bad the Dodger fans are going to treat him that was pretty funny. Quote " He mocks those who have followed the legal process and believe that eventually he might be forced to trade in McCovey Cove for Pelican Bay."

The same people who are bad mouthing the possible record break are snapping pictures at the game. The best thing anyone could do is not go to the game. How would he feel about setting the record with an empty stadium?

Just curious what the average Joe feels about it.

I really haven't followed baseball since the strikes, but my personal opinion on it is the same as the babe ruth/ roger marris homerun deal. The game has changed, technology the number of games per season. Either way you look at it, its still a great accomplishment. It just doesn't seem to have the same meaning. I bet ole hank didn't take performance enhancing substances either.

Hey, WHAT IF YOUR NAME ISN'T JOE? Can you still post an answer here

Ah, Muddy at his finest! lol

Muddy Red Sox fans ( before the World Series win ) are the closest to understanding what its like to be a frustrated Cub fan. Sox fans get a special "Joe" exemption so post away.

What's your thoughts on the Bonds issue? He deserves the record? He's a bum?

I hope he breaks his leg today and is out the rest of the year, I cannot stand that guy >:(

And everytime I turn on the game, even if its not a SF game, it's like the Barry Bonds show. That's all they talk about the whole time, and you know it's not about baseball anymore when the camera is focused on Bonds sitting the bench half the game..."And there goes the god of baseball Barry Bonds walking off the field after is third K of the game"...makes me sick...

A lot of people felt the same way when Hank was getting close to the record back then.... :o..Oh yeah...it was cause he is BLACK.... :o  I remember those days...even certain sports casters were bad mouthing him.

SF Loves Barry Bonds...I could care less about the whole thing.  That record he sets will get broken too.....GO A-ROD...lol

Will Barry Bonds ever be considered to actually be a legitimate record holder or just another guy that had to cheat to get where he is. Only time will answer that question but for many there will always be that stain of steroid abuse attached to his name and claiming ignorance is not a good excuse.

barry: break records, not rules.

I am not a baseball fan in the least, but have a good friend who is a sports fanatic. I agree with his take on the whole thing....

There were no rules against it in baseball, no tests, no anything....not to mention the guy has NEVER HAD A POSITIVE URINE TEST.

We are most certainly not doctors here (most), so we can't lend anything but "IMHO."

As far as personalities go and attitudes toward others....the guy is dirt. As far as breaking the rules, well if there are no actual rules against it then he's not really doing anything wrong. Sad to say and definitely unethical, but also the truth.

Again, not a sports fan, but the argument seems to make sense to me...

barry bonds and roids changed the outcome of more games than Pete Rose's bets...

I'd like to see a lifetime suspension at one HR. shy of the record.  He's a disgrace.

Speedbead great reply you bring up some good points.

I'm not sure but isn't steroid use against the law? ( I honestly don't know). If that is the case then just because baseball doesn't have a rule against it then???

I would lean toward the fact that he having admitted to using " the cream " and " the clear " then in my mind positive urine test or not he knew he was "cheating" the system. Thus he tarnished baseball.

If a class act like Roger Marris gets an asterisk then Bonds record deservers to be in miniature unreadable fine print at best. ( and sort the record book based on text size large first lol)

The only saving grace is the baseball writers hall of fame is not democratic. Hopefully they will have the Kahunas to have the last word and keep him out of the hall.

As far as records they should pro-rate and give Babe Ruth and all others credit based on an equal number of games. Maybe you could give credit to the guys who served in war times as a tribute to their sacrifice. That would open up a cn of worms ( injuries etc )

Its a shame class acts like Henry Arron, Lou Brock Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige etc etc had to endure what they did but unfortunately that was society at the time.

I can see it now, Bonds will read this and will call me and say " you don't know me " my answer would be one word " good "       click..........hummmmm

Bonds makes me sick as well.  Everyone knows he cheated and even if its not against baseball rules its against the law.  It probably doesn't state in the baseball rule book that you can't urinate while standing on third base, but I bet you would get suspended if you did.  I've been watching the games in LA, and will watch the San Diego games, just to see how bad he gets treated when he breaks the record.  I will not watch if it looks like he's going to break it in San Fran. Having said that, he should be in the hall.  He was a hall of famer before steroids, but he would of not came near the homerun record without them.

Some good points Matt

Too bad we just can't keep him our of the hall for being an @#% hole

Maybe the hall should have a character clause reuirement

Then again Babe and Ty might have trouble with that one.

Roids are used in the medical field...and a doc gave it to him.  Just saying.

Cocain is ILLEGAL, but I was given some Liquid Cocain, while in the Military, to fix my nose.  I even failed a Urine test 3days later.  Did I get into trouble?  NOPE.  I had medical document of it.  Also the doc who did the procedure was a Navy doc.

So see, you can get anything that is illegal to the public if given by a doc.

What a shame for BONDS though.  He had all that talent in his younger days....to go and have that done.  Then to say he didn't know...WHATEVER.  I have never liked him since he was a rookie...that is all ATTITUDE....he is an arse.

What would football be w/out roids?   More goes into hitting a homerun than muscles.  Eye/hand control is the biggest part of it.....

Eye/hand control is the biggest part of hitting the baseball.  Which I admit is very difficult to do.  Eye/hand control plus muscles is the biggest part of hitting a homerun.

BARRY,BARRY,BARRY its gonna get broken and whether you nguys like it or not, he will be the homerun king. Until he is found guilty of steroids im still gonna support him. Sure he is a number one pain in the arse, but he is there to win games not make freinds with everyone.

Cajun,

I support your right to disagree, and you are correct he's probably going to break the record whether I like it or not.  However, he admitted to taking steroids.  He just thought it was flaxseed oil ::).
