Well, I certainly see your point and it's difficult to say "when" is enough. The "general rule" is that when debates become "arguments" the "discussion" is ended. I know it's very subjective, but arguments are not allowed on this Forum. (I don't need any examples of this policy NOT being enforced, it's a gray area.) So, as you can see, there is no easy answer, but we don't take sides and we try to be fair.

RW, your response is a perfect example of calm, cool debate.  Unfortunately, many debates often mutate into something worse, as you stated, and that is why I understand the reasons for the rules being what they are.  We can disagree, but I'm not going to Tennessee to burn your house down, though I might take a few G.Loomis rods off of your hands.

Well, I guess I missed something but, I agree, a little heated discussion is good for the blood flow and its good to vent at times but, I think the mods do a good job of keeping it civil when it gets out of hand, or is on that path of getting out of hand. It never solves anything to get goofy.

It's funny how the perspective is different from one group to another. I recently discovered a fishing newgroup based in the Florida Big Bend. I was amazed to see pictures of guys with stringers of big dead bass. In my first post to the group I gently chided them, reminding them of a line my father used to use: Bass fishing is a whole lot like basketball. It's hard to get up a game tomorrow if you kill all the losers today.

Man! You would have thought I had called their pick-up truck ugly and their dog gun-shy. I'm not very welcomed there any more, which is OK since a lot of the guys are pretty racist and the moderators don't seem to care.

As far as "seeing blood", I have way too much brain power for that.  You can always resort to your intelligence before your ego or your "tough-guy-ness".  You will have to have had done something to my family (includes close friends) or someone who cannot defend themselves for me to get physical but if it ever comes to that, I hope my adversary realizes that I realize how small I am and surely won't fight fair.  "Fair" however, is subjective.  If I have been brought to "that" line, fair went out the window a long time ago.

As for respectful debating, just read anything between RW and myself regarding senkos or trick sticks.

We've strongly disagreed on the subject since we met but our respect for each other has only grown.,  That says a lot.

I enjoy debate, but not immature name calling and personal attacks, such as when Dabnis was trying to tell other members "screw you guys" for not agreeing with his viewpoint.

Back in "98" I took classes for TQM style management, there was one course called Human Resource Management Specialization that trained you to identify hostile employees. all that money for that course and it was easily summed up.

Identify the same trouble maker, its the same face that never changes in a group argument, you identify the newbies and identify the one thats always there. when I summed that up, the teacher quit allowing me bathroom breaks

ummmm   i can remember one thread where roadwarriors comments and my  comments were deleted and it was something to do with something you had said to him.  well my point is i dont remember exactly what was said but i do know it wasnt that bad to where it had to be removed.  so maybe you guys do jump the gun a little to early on shutting down some threads.  but whos paying attention : ;D

Correct, and I'd be offended too, calling me a liver eater.

WHAT?  Nobody has a problem with Brussel Sprouts?  I went way out of my way to really stir the feces, but all I get back is one comment on liver eating and a couple of comments on the use of the word Honky.  To tell you the truth, I think the last time I heard that word used was when Richard Pryor used it in Silver Streak - but I getting so old that I don't remember whether or not the movie was Silver Streak.   :-/

Seriously,  if I post anything on the "Everything Else" forum, do not take me seriously.  I usually banter with old what's his name down in Florida and that really ugly guy who can't use a trolling motor, but Burley seems to be trying to turn the trio into a foursome.  The more the merrier.

If anyone has been offended by anything I have posted, then you have my sincere apologies.  I assure you that it was all in jest and that no offense was intended.

 I can see both points on this. It would be great if people just conducted themselves with class at al times. Guess that is not in the cards for some, plus how do yo draw that line? Someone can disagree but it would be great if they did it without being a jerk about it.
