justfishin Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 1. Why did someone very close to me get knocked down a rank for shooting a Iraq running out of a building pointing something and screaming at him--it was a only a cell phone after the fact---- but, it was also after a brief enemy combat situation. Why? 2. Why do our guys have to purchase some of their own equipment? 3. Why do the wounded get charged for their meals while on the meand ? 4. Why are some of the familys on welfare while their spouses are fighting ? Just some honest questions. :-?
Super User Catt Posted August 4, 2007 Super User Posted August 4, 2007 Ask you senators and congressmen
George Welcome Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 #1- The decision could be just or unjust: without seeing a report of the incident and hearing the facts it's anybodies guess. #2- If you want something not military issued, then you have to buy it. You also have to buy clothing and personal items. #3- Good question if there is fact to subtantiate it. #4- Welfare programs go hand in hand with married military life. Serving your country has never been a career choice with a "get rich quick" scheme.
justfishin Posted August 4, 2007 Author Posted August 4, 2007 :-? , that soldier was my son Welcome. He was protecting himself and others. The decision was made to quell complaints from local officials in the town. His CO and other men in his patrol backed him up completly and felt he was fully justified, but, the hearing was done by some guys off of a Navy Ship whom never seen a fire fight. The wounded being charged for their own meals was on CNN and was ridiculed by senators and congressmen. No soldier fighting should have to have his family on Welfare, there is no excuse for that. Buying your own Flak Jacket because of a shortage and a lack of preparation from a country that sends billions to other countrys is ridiculous. Have a good day sir.
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 5, 2007 Super User Posted August 5, 2007 I know that one of us Mods locked this but I feel like I need to say something as a former solider myself. JF, I am truly sorry about your son. It sounds like he is a victim of Politicians getting involved in warfare. It is sad to see this happen to our fighting men and women. I am sorry it has hit so close to home for you. I didn't see the CNN spot about the meals. But the ones paying for their meals may have been those who were under a "Line of Duty NO" This is when they are being treated for self inflicted wounds or injuries received when they were not following orders or just plain screwing around. Like I said I didn't see the spot but if it is all wounded across the board then we need to write our congressmen. As for purchasing our equipment. We have always done that. The army has always stiffed the little guy. I lived in a buildings where the concrete floors were caving in. Every time we got deployed I always packed extra personal weapons and bought extra ammo and extra/better body armor. I was just part of it. Yes it is sad and we should do something about it. But I don't think it will ever change. And for being on welfare. Many of us were and are on Welfare but the sad thing is that there are even more that should be but their pride gets in the way.
