Super User Dan: Posted May 4, 2008 Super User Posted May 4, 2008 I've been having trouble finding big EWG hooks to use on my Bass Magic swimbaits. I've orderd 7/0 hooks from two different internet sources. In both orders I ordered extra things to make the shipping worth while, and both orders came with the extra stuff without the hooks, the main items I wanted anyway....Needless to say, after this happening twice and being unable to fish my swimbaits for two months, I am beyond frustrated. Can anyone help me find a place where I can buy and actually receive some 7/0 or 8/0 EWG weighted hooks? BTW, the sites I tried were critterbaits and barlow's tackle...neither called or emailed to tell me my order was going to be shipped to me incomplete. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 4, 2008 Super User Posted May 4, 2008 The Lake Fork Tackle swimbait hooks are the only ones I've found and BPS can't keep them in stock. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 4, 2008 Super User Posted May 4, 2008 http://www.***.com/descpageDVT-DBSL.html You might try these from Tackle Warehouse but I like the 6/0 1/4oz weighted hooks from Reaction Strike. Dick's has them now. I'm not sure where you can order them on line. Quote
MNGeorge Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 I got some 7/0 and some 10/0 Lake Fork weighted EWG hooks from BPS. I went to two different BPS stores in one week, just by coinicidence, and both had some of each in stock. Barlow's told me they didn't know when they would have any and their's are from Lake Fork. Not sure what's up with that. Quote
Rob G. Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 www.bayououtdoors.com Check out the V&M stuff. They just came out with swimbait hooks. Quote

Super User eyedabassman Posted May 4, 2008 Super User Posted May 4, 2008 You can make your own weighted hooks! Just take a core weight and remove the rubber insert. Then make the space alittle wider and crimp it on your hook, works great. And it is alot better on $$$$$.The nice thing too is you can change weights without changing hooks. Quote
Super User David P Posted May 4, 2008 Super User Posted May 4, 2008 Lake Fork Tackle has a 10/0 as well. You can get the "Cradle weight" that fits on hooks. Or you can get the Lunker City type that clips onto a regular hook. Then you have even more options. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 4, 2008 Author Super User Posted May 4, 2008 the problem with making my own is that I can't even find the big EWG hooks I need. The largest I have been able to find in local stores is 5/0. I'm going to go check Dick's pretty soon, hopefully I'll be able to find some there. Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Weighted swimbait hooks are a hot, hot, hot item right now. I have eight boxes of hooks on backorder from Lake Fork as of right now. They have a few thousand packs on backorder for dealers, so who knows when I will get mine. Davis Baits makes a standard weighted EWG swimbait hook as well as a weighted swimbait hook with a screw lock. They come in standard wire and heavy wire versions. I believe they have versions up to 8/0. Brad Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted May 4, 2008 Super User Posted May 4, 2008 I don't know the actual size, but Gammy has the G-Mag Oversize that may work if you add your own weight. I use those for swimming frogs. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 5, 2008 Author Super User Posted May 5, 2008 thanks for the info, Fishtank, I found those hooks in 7/0 at a Dick's nearby. Quote
