I think that if you are going to eat what you kill it is just fine to kill something but I also think that if something is going to cause harm and effect more people/things than it is worth then it should be killed. Where I live that is the case so I think it is just fine to kill starlings. Plus I need a little target practice every now and then. Also I would eat a starling if someone would cook it for me cause I can't cook for crap.

I disagree with killing something just because it might do something bad in the future... Keep in mind that humans are non native species on this continent.  We are overpopulated.  And we spread tons of disease too.

Unless there is currently an epidemic being spread by blackbirds, I would leave them be.  If there are thousands of sick, weak, emaciated blackbirds (like overpopulated deer sometimes get) then by all means, thin the herd.  It doesn't sound like that, it sounds like they are thriving.  It sounds like somebody just likes killing stuff, and has found an easy target.  Just my $.02.

I used to shoot black birds back in the day, I would chase them around the backyard with my bow. I probebly hit one every 20 shots or so but I had fun, I kinda grew out of it though and dont do it anymore.
