Red Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 went out on belton lake this weekend hybrid striper fishing...we did pretty good...12 hybrids, 4 whites and one huge crappie....but i thought i would show some pics of how high the water level is on the lake all of these were taken in the Temple lake park area, except the one of me with the light post...that was at the boat launch on the other side of the lake and here is the sunrise from that morning Cliff Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 9, 2007 Super User Posted July 9, 2007 The flooding is pretty amazing, there is so much extra water there. 33.5' high this morning. It looks like the water won't go over the spillway. As of this morning, it's on the spillway but the gates are letting out more than the river is carrying in. At this point, I was hoping to see it go over. I was out on Belton Sat. morning also. The buzzbait bite was hot (all smallmouth) for the first hour and then it shut off like a light switch! I fear it's going to be several months before we get near normal water levels and then to see the damage of what's been under all this time. Quote
Red Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 yeah the amount of trash that is floating around is crazy...i am sure it will take alot of effort for the clean up process once the water goes down....and let me tell ya it is tough navigating at night with all the crap in the water...ya really have to be careful i have never fished belton lake for anything other than hybrids and whites.....we got on some fish good this time out...took a while for the shad to move in but once they did they were in thick and the hybrids were right there with them...wasnt a great night for me but the other guys did well, i only managed to land one and a gasper goo...i lost 4 to knot failure....wasnt my gear and i just could not tie a good knot with berkley big game extra limp...next time i will have my stuff with me Cliff Quote
