Big plans for the 4th? or some memories?

Starten to be a routine for mom and dad, and the inlaws comen over. Some church friends come by too. Lets see I think its the 5th year now, we got room for it tho.

set some bang, bangs off(thankful it rained), and some BBQ (yummy)

Last year I had some dove left over from hunten season and made shishkabobs. That was a big hit, funny how last minute ideas are the best.

After words few of the ladies from church wanted to know if the rumor was true, did they just eat Dove, nope I says just some rat I caught in the ditch ;D

I don't think they'll come this year.

I might set some bang bang off, not sure yet. I usually just buy much fireworks as I can and set them off.

I might just make some homemade ice cream and watch the neighbors blow stuff up. Havn't quiet decided.

I have fun plans!    I'll get to work about 5:30 AM, get greens mowed and other fun stuff.  Then I get to patrol the border of the golf course the rest of the day to keep everyone off, as the city shoots the fireworks off on my 16th too box!  :'(  My whole staff comes back at 5:30 PM to help patrol the rest of the night.  By the time the fireworks get done and people get out of the area it will be between 11:30 and midnight.  FUN FUN FUN   :(

I used to work at Milburn Country Club.  They had their own firework show so I know how much of a pain it can be at the course on the 4th.  Everyone basically was at the club all day whether it was at the pool or playing golf.  Easily the busiest day of the year.  Then about 5:00 everyone would start to get to their spots on the course ...... WHILE PEOPLE ARE STILL PLAYING.  So that was always fun to go tell people to get off the course :.  Then once they got off the course they usually hung around in front of the Pro Shop ......... right where all the golf cart traffic is :.  

Anyways, they set the fireworks off from the range.  The next morning one of the grounds crew was mowing the range and he mowed over a firework that never went off :o  Talk about a BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't exactly remember what happened but I remember the mower flipping over and if I remember correctly the ground crew member had to go to the ER.

I surprised you let them set them off from a tee box.  Don't they have to dig a bunch of holes??

fishing in the morning, shooting off "bang bangs" at night. My sister is throwing the party this year she is having a bunch of friends over. I might hang around there for a few and then head home. I dunno.

But one thing is for sure, I AM GOING FISHING!  :

KU, Milburn, love that course.  Actually better before they redid it but good anyway.  The way they do it here is they have 30 or so boxes filled with sand and stuffed with 25 to 50 (depending on size) poly tubes from 2" to 8" in diameter.  Then there are 10 barrels with 12" mortars in them.  Great show, lasts about 30 minutes, but one mell of a hess the next day.   :'(  We average one or two unfired mortars per year with the rough mowers.  Big boom, scares the hell out of the operator, and usually causes some damage to the deck.

July 4 is always the hardest day of the year for me as it stirs up a lot of emotions from the past that are not pleasant or happy especially during years with the climate the way it is in nation right now. Right after 9/11 for a few years it was easier for me on that day because as a nation we were united but now I have to be by myself again. I know most will not understand this so just celebrate the day for me and enjoy the holiday!

July 4th. is fun.

My wife and I will go to Ft. Pierce with some friends.  They have dancing, food, fireworks, all fun stuff.

I spent July 3rd , 4th, and 5th, in 1972 hiking down and around the Grand Canyon.

It was an awesome experience.

This has become the routine at our house on the Fourth  Set out the US flag.  We mow the lawn in the morning (I get the tractor, wife gets the lawn mower).  Clean the pool.  Set up bean bags, horseshoes, badminton, and croquet.  Get the 2 grills ready for my wife's choices of food that I have to make (this year is hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, and 25 dozen clams).   About 25 - 30 family members show up around 2pm.  Towards evening I set off the lame fireworks I get for the kids.  Afterwards we set out lawn chairs in the back yard, because the neighbors in back of us set up a cool professional fireworks display (there are large properties in our area at 14 acres each, so its safe), and the kids toast marshmallows.  After everybody goes home and we clean up, I finally crash.  It's getting to the point that I need to take a personal day from work just to get over the holiday.  A lot of work, but it sure makes for great memories all the kids will have.

For me, it's fishing in the morning. The kids and grandkids will be over for a BBQ in the afternoon, then around 8:30 P.M. we'll load up everybody on the boats and go watch the fireworks on the water.

If it rains like they are predicting, my wife will want to go to the casino instead, and we'll have the BBQ over the weekend.

Last year I was very lucky to be invited aboard a client's 65 Viking yacht (that he has becasue he can...) and we watched the NYC Macy's fireworks from the East River, just alongside the UN building.  What a treat to see them so close, and LOUD.

This year, if it doesn't rain, I'm going fishing.  If it does rain, I dunno, maybe some Monopoly with the girlfriend...  Better not rain...

I am getting up early tomorrow and taking my wife fishing , then around 1 or 2 pm we are coming home, getting the grill ready and then we are going to grill some Yellowfin Tuna. Then tommorrow night we are probably going to watch some fireworks at some friends' house.  This year is a little special for me as last year at this time I was facing spinal surgery, which I on August 3rd, and I really could not do much.

My plan was to spend the day fishing then grill some burgers and 'dogs with the girls.  Instead, I have a cold - yes a cold in summer - so, instead of fishing, I am feeling miserable, coughing, fever, can't breathe and a sore throat.

The good news is that I should be feeling better when I go back to work tomorrow.  :-?

I will not forget this July 4.  Regardless of how I feel, Happy Birthday America!
