Lightninrod Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Hey y'all! It's good to be back. My DW and I drove to the NC mountains(near Banner Elk and Grandfather Mountain) for a few days. We were visiting a couple that have been our friends since the 60s. We got back yesterday. No fishing done while we were there but we had a great time going to bluegrass and gospel sings out in the fresh mountain air. Got some wonderful blackberry jam too ! Here are a couple of pics: A mule and a jack... Great musicians Want a goat? Rapids More rapids Saw mill Kiln She and me Dan Quote

Super User burleytog Posted July 3, 2007 Super User Posted July 3, 2007 Looks like they've gotten some much needed rain. When my wife and I spent the weekend in Boone last month, things were dry as a bone. Quote

Big T Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Nice Pics. The mountains of NC are beautiful. I have only been to some parts of them a couple times. It is totally different from the coast. Now that I think of it I have probably been to Florida more times than I have the western part of my home state. Big T. Quote
Lightninrod Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Thanks y'all. It was a grand time in those gorgeous mountains with their greenery, blooming rhododendrons, great music, fine food(we had blackened Mahi, Mahi on the deck of the cabin as the rain peppered the tin roof), and some fine, friendly folk. Highly recommend it for a vacation to remember. Dan Quote
Guest avid Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Man, you fo sho wuz in some kuntry!!!!!!!! how much ya want for the goat? Quote
bassboy1 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Our cousin owns a vacation house up in Newland, which is right near their, and we go there from time to time. In fact, we are leaving to go their Sunday. If ya ever go back, you HAVE to venture into Newland and eat at Fabio's restaurant. Absolute BEST Italian food, and considering my granddad was Italian, and brought recipes through Ellis island with him, that is saying something. Quote
frogtog Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Welcome back Dan and I'am with you,I love the mountains. Quote

ejtaylor822 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Nice pics, Dan. You were up near my home (Asheville/Burnsville). Blackberry jam from the mountains is hard to beat. Spread some on a warm biscuit with a little butter and that's a meal fit for a king IMHO. That's a good one of you and the Mrs. LR. BTW, love the sign on the building in the musicians picture - this is a workfree, smokin', chewin' and pickin' area. That's good! Quote
Troutfisher Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Great pics, Lightninrod! Nothing beats some good bluegrass pickin'! Quote
