jb_from_texas Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I own a print shop. We manufacture and sell personalized receipt books. I have no printing experience and would not know how to run a press if it bit me. All our printing is done on Risographs (digital duplicators that look like Xerox machines but have an ink drum in them instead of toner.) Just thought I would throw that in there because it looks like we have several people in the printing industry here. The huge upside to my job is that I only physically go in to the office about 3 days a week so I have plenty of time to fish. Work for Dow Jones (WSJ and now Barron's Magazine) but who knows who i will work for this time next year. Probably NewsCorp if Murdoch has his way. Quote

Big T Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I work second shift M-F as batchmaker for a chemical company that makes coatings for the printing and packaging companies. To clarify it a little, next time someone buys a carton of Pespi or Coors Beer look at the way the cardboard shines and is little slick. The company I work for makes that coating. We ship all over the country and Hong Kong too. Not bad from a company of around 100 to 150 people. Big T Quote

I would have never thought someone had to actually make that. I just thought thats the way it was. Learn something new everyday I like when these threads pop up. Dont ya just love that. It's how our office is set up too. I actually busted out the "PC Load Letter" yesterday....unfortunately only two other people actually got it. Gotta love the "gophers" that pop up during a conversation too. A lot of times, you will just see their heads creeping up over the cubicle wall and then retreating when you notice they are there. Kinda looks like the neighbor, "Wilson" from the show Home Improvement. Typically you only see half a face. ;D Wayne Quote
Fishing Buds Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I make windows for a living, as the saying goes "was your Daddy a window maker"? Been there since 1992, I'm the production manager over about 95 people. But, its trained me as a therapist-they don't hesistate to bring me their problems. But, get this, I usually average 3 sexual harrasment cases a year that I handle > Once they are educated on how the system works watch OUT! I can't stress enough on this, I've seen relationships go sour here (even 24hr ones) and someone looses they JOB! I'm tellin ya if your a male, document all ya want, you gonna lose your job. Example is on a complaint last year, this woman was known to cut up very freely, even physical. she was dancin on a table one day asking for dollars, well one guy took the offer and I guess she didn't want it from him and she filed a charge. I cleared him of the charge, had witnesses-simple. She went to the fair employment agency and we had to fire the guy because it put her in a stressful work environment. cool huh! Quote
