Fish Man Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 for the guys on here that enjoy heavier music i was wondering which side you take on the batle going on between these two bands about one stealing the others identity and what not......personally i think that it is stupid thing to argue over but i side wth mushroomhead despite liking both bands i had never known of this and only recently found out about it and apparently its been going on for a long itme and i want to know what others think (that is if anyone knows what im talking bout) lol also with band do yall think has better music...im still with mushroomhead on this one ;D Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 identity debate: don't give a crap better music: Slipknot I used to listen to them alot, but I have kind of lost the taste for their music. Wait and Bleed and Spit it Out are still a couple of my favorite songs of all time though. Just getting into Demiricous at the moment. Pretty heavy, but kind of somewhere between thrash and groove metal. If I were to only have one Metal band to listen to for the rest of my life, at this point, it would be Lamb of God. Those guys are awesome, 'specially LIVE! I saw them and Shadows Fall open for Slipknot a year or two ago. Great show all around. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 Mushroom-who??? Slipknot, on the other hand.... Quote
Cajun1977 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 motley crue van halen acdc thats my kinda metal Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 motley crue van halen acdc thats my kinda metal That ain't metal, that's hairspray rock. Well, at least the boys from Oz never overdid it on the hairspray like Motley Crue. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Todays metal has nothing on 80s metal. Its not fast enough for me. Plus its all screaming. I would rather listen to metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Slayer, Anthrax, And many more. But there are a few good metal bands today like Three days Grace, Static-X, Godsmack, Disturbed, and Drowing Pool. But Iam not sure how I feel about slipknot. I can't stand mushroomhead. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 tipp, tipp, tipp Did you really just call Three Days Grace metal? :-/ Them and every other band you listed falls into the hard rock category as far as I am concerned! The 80's blew. Although you listed some good bands. Old Metallica is undeniable. Those old men, in their hay day, were metal gods. That is some good thrash right there! All screaming? Have you actually listened to Slayer? If anything, the difference in todays vs 80's is that todays metal is largely driven by drums and riffs. The 80's was guitar solos in overdrive! I can't listen to most old metal. I also can't listen to most things that are coined same. Skin tight vinyl pants, aquanet, and spandex shirts are pretty much the lamest things ever. Music is like religion, politics, and car brands. No body will ever feel a total victory when arguing any of them! Quote
Fish Man Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 i dont know fourbizzle, i think 2 or 3 of tose bands could at least make it into the catogory of alternative matel such as godsmack, static x, and disturbed but i could see how they are hard rock also, maybe a mix of both??? :-/ Quote
Replica. Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Yelling and screaming I don't mind, but the barking, gunting, and growling that dominates metal today gets a little old after awhile. I heard a few mushroomhead songs and hated them. I am not a slipknot fan, but I like a few of thier songs. Bands like sabbath and acdc are insulted when people label them metal. Slayer, anthrax, and early metallica are thrash bands. I am not even sure what people mean when they call a band metal. The last time I was excited about a new band was in 93 when I first heard fear factory. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 Replica, the word metal is often painted with a very broad stroke these days. Fear Factory is AWESOME! Redneck, I agree that static -x is approaching what I consider metal. Godsmack is not, I do like both bands though. Replica have you heard At the Gates/ The Haunted? Thrashy Swede metal, very good stuff! I actually prefer the more guttural vocals over the shrieking. Anybody listen to DevilDriver? Pretty good band, and a little more towards the mainstream. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 4bizz, Just curious, do you have a background in music? You sound very educated (musically) with your responses Quote
John J. Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'd rather listen to the songs and bands I put on my-space. For those who want to see go to my-space.com/number01hunter. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 4bizz, Just curious, do you have a background in music? You sound very educated (musically) with your responses I'm not sure if that was sarcastic, but I'm pretty sure it wasnt 8-) I played in a REALLY CRAPPY band for a few years before realizing how badly I sucked LOL! I just like hard music! Quote
bassdocktor Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 My pick between the 2 is gonna be Slipknot. I've listened to some stuff by Mushroomhead and just never liked it that much. I think the reason I like side with Slipknot is the percussion. I've been a percussionist for over 12 years and I just like how they bring in more that just a drumset. While alot of people will disagree but Joey Jordison actually is a very good drummer and probably his style is part of their success. I think the problem with metal today is the definition has changed. So what people consider metal now is much different than before so that alone can cause arguements when trying to compare todays groups with the classics. If you are really look for fast metal you need to look outside the US. Sweeden, the stuff I've heard from there puts alot of todays groups to shame. bassdocktor Quote

Super User fourbizz Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 Nope, guitar/bass guitar. Equally lousy at both Quote
flyphisher # Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I like slipknot dont know much about either, both ripped off Gwar in a lot of ways.....not a big metal listener anymore, just pre-tournament mornings really, i listen to jam band stuff the most now, but was into the heavy stuff when i was younger.... Tool,pre-black album Metallica,Pantera, Danzig, early White Zombie, Slayer,Motorhead, Iron Maiden, and Deftones......4Biz is the only one that really knows what real metal is as far as this thread goes. Everything else posted is Alternative hard rock or something..... its like wanna be metal but the $ is something or other.....I am waiting for someone to mention some hardcore rap rock ;D Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 13, 2007 Super User Posted June 13, 2007 pre-black album Metallica,Pantera, Danzig, early White Zombie Yeah buddy! Those cowboys from texas are the $#!t Quote
tipptruck1 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I am waiting for someone to mention some hardcore rap rock ;D So I take it you mean Papa Roach and Limp Bizket. I can't stand them bands. But I also can't stand rap. Quote

Everything else posted is Alternative hard rock or something..... its like wanna be metal but the $ is something or other..... I could list hundreds of modern hardcore, black metal, grindcore, death, mallcore (or what ever you want to call them) bands, but that still does not make them quality music. Quote
Fish Man Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 while were o the subject of rock genres where would you put linkin park, the reason i ask is that alot of their music varies.every song is different (some are more heavy others are like rap) and now there new album is completely different than all of their other stuff and its got me confused.....maybe nu metal??? Quote
flyphisher # Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Linkin park is alternative rock I guess.....glad they are evolving out of what they started out as for the sake of their career, real metal bands dont get played on pop stations. Also heard rap rock/alternative hard rock crap called **** rock, considering the largest demographic of fans are 13-18 yr old boys, i think that is an appropriate name. ;D Yeah Limp Bizkit and the like are probably used by the U.S military to torture enemies, the stuff is unbearable to listen to. and what is the deal with this emo crap? i dont get it. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 From what i've heard so far nobody like rap-rock, but there are some good rap rock cd's out there. The first limp bizkit cd was awesome, the first pod cd, but they both kind of sold out. If you actually like rap-rock and want to hear some real good rap-rock from a band that knows what they are doing listen to HED PE. They kick and have been around a long time. They know what they are doing. Quote
Guest avid Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Have no idea of the music, but I love the names. Mushroomhead. I knew a few of those back in the day. slipknot - personally I prefer a bowline but hey, to each his own. Quote
bigdog Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Watch it 4 bizz the only thing that blew about the 80's was the snow. Quote
