Bassboy15 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 In order to flatten to your computer do you have to have the discs that came with the computer. In past when I have flattened it I have used them but in the move, I lost them > Anyone Know? Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 9, 2007 Super User Posted June 9, 2007 I don't know about computers very much. What about one of these? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 9, 2007 Super User Posted June 9, 2007 The discs won't do you any good, a sledge hammer would though. Quote
Red Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 when you say flatten, are you talking about totally deleting(formatting) your hard drive and starting fresh? if so, you need to have the disks for your operating system(windows) if you dont have these then i wouldnt format the hard drive...unless you want to go buy a new copy of windows? are you having a problem of some sort or you just want to start fresh? Bassboy15 Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 torpedo, my computer is just running slower than normal...not slow, but slower than normall....I do have the copy of windows xp if thats all I need.... Quote
Red Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 well if you have all the windows disks and the disks for any other programs/games and want to start fresh you should be fine...but there is other things you can do first to try to fix the problem....run the disk defragmenter, do a disk cleanup, check for spyware(you can download free programs for this...google "spybot S&D", "ad-aware", those are two good ones i know of)uninstall/delete any crap on your hard drive that you dont need or dont use anymore....after all that if it still is running slow then it is beyond my knowledge...if i have some problems like that i normally format the hard drive and reinstall fresh...keep in mind if you format the hard drive you WILL LOSE EVERYTHING! you will be deleting windows and everything else from your computer...so back up important stuff onto disks...i reinstall windows like this about 2-3 times a year...its like having a brand new PC! good luck Cliff Quote
