Anyone into golf around here. I just started going with my friends and I really like it. I always thought it would be boring from watching it on tv but it is defenitly fun. I have caught on fast and am only shooting 5 or 6 strokes over par on a small nine hole course next to my house. Of course this new hobby is defenitly taking away from my bait monkey money!!! :'(

I golf and found that it is the same thing.  When I go into any store that has both golf and fishing my wife has to put blinders on me to keep me going.  And it is not taking away from the bait monkey he just uses a different name around a golfer, Fairway Monkey ;D ;D

I used to be obsessed.  High School through the first couple years of college I worked at a country club.  That was great.  Free golf and discounts galore.  Then for what ever reason I didn't play for about 3 years and over the past couple months I have started playing again.  The fire is starting to burn again.

Another VERY expensive hobby ::)

I love to golf!  I definitely hit enough shots to get my money's worth!   ;)

And yes, it is very expensive too!  The golf monkey is constantly trying to add new clubs to the bag!

Oh... and the Bass Pro Shops in Orlando has a golf department too!  One stop shopping for both of my favorite sports!!!   :)

I play golf from time to time. Iam not that great at it. I just I could keep my drives on the fareway. I have a major slice. I hook is pretty bad also. I once hit a plant pot that was behind my back about 20 feet from me. To this day I still cant figure out how a ball went behind me. I also can get balls to skip across the water.

It comes and goes with me.  Be sure to carry a 2 or 3 pc. rod in your bag... some of the best places on earth to fish are on golf courses... I usually let a group or two play through when I get to a good pond.  ...lol

The only golf I play is miniature golf. ;)

Now that really surprises me. I thought of anyone on here, you would be the person with a 1 or 2 handicap.

I thought the golf course was a great place to do business?   ;)

I started playing golf when I was about 7 years old and played about 3-5 times per week through high school.  I played in tournaments over the summers and played in on the team in high school.  Now I'm a senior in college and played probably have played only about 10 times in the last three years (Really started fishing a lot more).  I think that I just got burned out with golf.  I'm not one who like half-@$$ a sport.  If i'm going to play it, I want to put the time in and play it well.  I don't like to play 4 times a year and shoot 90 everytime.  The thing that I miss with golf is playing tournaments.  (Not the one's at your local muni were you play "best ball") but rather a non hanicaped stroke play, player with the lowest score, wins.  I loved to play competitive golf.

And yes, golf can get VERY expensive

I was obsessed with golf for 20+ years. It IS fun.Got pretty good at it,but had to play 4-5 times a week to keep that swing right. It got to be too much.I still have my Calloway irons(just in case).Happy to say I limit myself to hitting the pitching wedge in the back yard.If you're only 5-6 shots over par for 18 holes and you just started...You're gonna get GOOD!

Wow! We have a lot in common. I played my last round in Kansas City sometime in May, 2006. I gave my (almost) brand new TaylorMade clubs to my brother after a terrible round. I just came to the realization that I couldn't continue to play golf unless I practiced and actually "played golf" regularly.

About 15 years ago I was obsessed with golf.  Unfortunately, I was never any good at it and never shot lower than the high nineties.   I suppose that's about par for someone who played only once a week and seldom practiced.  I still have my Ping irons and Big Bertha driver, but they are gathering a lot of dust these days.  Maybe I could figure a way to convert my golf bag into a combination tackle and rod bag.

I live on a course and do love to play, I just never seem to make it a priority. I just go out after the course closes and chip or play the holes behind my house. (It's my father in law's course so I am not doing anything illegal)

It's an expensive sport, be sure not to anger the bait monkey!!

I was a 4 handicap before I started fishing.  I have my degree in golf course management, but don't use it anymore, other than on my yard, which at the moment doesn't reflect my abilities.  I am like KU in the sense that I haven't played in about 3 yrs but every now and then I get a small urge to go practice for a while.  I actually thought fishing would be a less expensive hobby, but boy was I grossly incorrect. :'(.  I will probably start playing here again soon, my 4 yr old son definitely has some skills when it comes to hitting a golf ball.  I built him a junior club out of an old Ping 1 iron I didn't use anymore and he used to be allowed to hit real golf balls, until one day he hit one across the street and hit the neighbors car on the fly, about a 30-40 yrd carry. :o

He can hit a 1 iron at 4  :o  Yeah, he is going to be good.

Isn't there some saying .... "Even God can't hit a 1-iron" or something like that

Yeah, it is a little embarrassing because the reason I used that club, was because I couldn't hit it anymore :-[

;D ;D

I actually have one in the bag, but it's my "get out of jail" club.  I don't exactly hit it the right way.  If I get a descent lie in the rough in the trees, I take a regular swing ::) and it goes about head high for 50-60 yards with a lot of top spin for roll.

That's the answer to the question, "What do you do when you're in a lightning storm?"  Hold up a 1 iron because god can't even hit a 1 iron.

I love having a nice long walk ruined by a little white ball.  Though I don't play as often as I like (maybe 10 rounds a season), I do enjoy being out and having a good time with my buddies.  To me, golf is not about the score, its about the enjoyment of being outdoors and being with friends.  I say this most when I'm in the woods or the sand or the water.

Just to make this an even longer thread, here's some of my favorite golf-isms:

Why do the call it Golf?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

Please allow lost balls to stop rolling before picking them up. -Mark Twain

How about some scotch with that water?

I'm getting the most for my greens fee today.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf like I do.

I started playing when I was 5.  Dad was my high school golf coach.  Golf scholorship to college.  Played mini-tours for a few years, finally convinced I just wasn't that good.   :(  Was a club pro for 8 or 9 years, and have been a golf course superintendent for the last many years.  Play once or twice a week usually 2 or three over par.  Also play a lot of 'golf' on the snooker table.  Does that count?  ;D

looks like we have our fair share of golfers here. My parents got me lessons with the local pro here and I went to my schools tryouts for their summer golf team and made it. Been playing for about 2 months and already made the summer league team. That's typical for me thought because when I get into something I realllllly get into it. My friend works at a driving range and gets me as many free buckets as I want and that has done wonders for my game. Played a 6,800 yard course today par 72 and shot 84. That is really good for only my second month. The guy I am getting lessons with says I have a natural swing and only told me to loosen my grip and get a little more hip rotation. I am driving around 250 yrds. now hoping to get that around 280 by the end of the summer. But boy are my pockets getting empty after I bought a Taylormade r580xd driver, Adams fairway woods, Adams iron set, and a bunch of other stuff.
