BOOYAH Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I had the pleasure of losing over $1,000 worth of tackle last nite when my boat got ransacked. Guess i was the 3rd boat hit this past week. d**n crooks make me sick, so i guess i'm done fishing for awhile til i can rebuild my supply. Just when the fishing was gettin good too. I guess i learned my lesson, no matter how much hassle it is I will be cleaning out my boat every night now. even locks on the lids don't stop people, that takes a lot of balls to do that crap 10 ft from my garage, considering i live on a fairly busy street with neighbors all around. Just had to vent a bit. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Sorry to hear this! I hope they find those A$$holes that stole your stuff! Quote
eastkybass Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 That blows. I never have been able to figure out how some people have the nerve to do the things they do. I hope they catch the crooks. You might want to check some of the local pawn shops around town you might be able to find some of your gear there. Quote
frogtog Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Booyah sorry for your lose. I hate those low lifes. If you would give your address and a list of the baits you lost I'll see if I can help you restock some of your baits. I have been hit two times myself and I know how it is. My insurance paid for my rods but would not pay for all my tackel. Quote
BOOYAH Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Yea i find out wedensday if my insurance covers it, but the agent said he doubted i'd get anything cuz they didn't offer me the coverage for fishing gear...dang insurance never seems to cover what ya need. as for a list of what i lost, I appreciate the offer but can't afford to replace it as of yet. Got one more month to go before the doc releases me for work i hope. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 contents should be either covered or not, wouldn't matter what they are. It's usually no different than a car. If thieves break your window, damage your door, while stealing your stereo, they don't just replace the door and window, with receipts, the stereo is covered too but will have a value cap Good luck. > (Please list what was stolen. As a mod, we check the flea market often and if you print a list here, it will jump at us if it shows up in the flea market.) Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Man,that sucks.Sorry to hear about it.They can take many things but don't mess with a man's fishing gear.Theives really tick me off! Quote
PaparockArk Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 BOOYAH, take frogtog's offer seriously as there are others here including myself that are willing to contribute to helping you get back on your feet by contributing free tackle. It is up to you but let us know how you fish and the lures you lost, and maybe the mods can help get the tackle to you. The people here will take care of the rest. We all buy extra tackle we can spare from time to time for a fellow angler in need when he is victimized. It is not charity, it is others caring that have been there and understand offering a helping hand. Perhaps the site could even establish a resource, members could contribute to that could be used to help out other members that are victims of such thefts. It is just an idea that if others think is worthwhile as well as the forum it could help members in need. Quote
skillet Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I have done a number of things I'm not real proud of in my life , but I was always the victim (and the perp). I can't for the life of me understand how someone can rationalize, then live with theirself, by hurting others. Hope that didn't come across as too goody-goody or naieve :-[... As Ever, skillet Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 6, 2007 Super User Posted June 6, 2007 I can't believe anyone would break into someone's boat. That is worse than breaking into a home or a car or an office. I have removed everyrthing from my boat and have unlocked the compartments so if any low life tries to get into the craft they will not have a difficult time and they can see that there is no gear on board. I am really sorry for you and I hope you can get some insurance money and restock your box. If you have a homeowners policy you may be able to make a claim under that contract. Give it some thought. If you do not have a homeowners or renters policy, think about getting one. I bet you are thinking of getting those lock bars I have seen in magazines to put over the compartment covers. That may be a good investment. Hey, at least you get to buy all of your stuff over again. The Bait Monkey awaits you. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted June 6, 2007 Super User Posted June 6, 2007 During the Fork trip, I noticed that Triton21 was using some neat locking bars that kept the dirtbags from opening any of the lockers. Quote
BOOYAH Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Thanks for all the responses, and the offers for tackle. But i wouldn't feel right taking tackle from others who work hard for theirs just as I did. I have about 10 packs of plastics that I had double packs an such. But the $300 or so of cranks i lost really hurt. I'll be fishing just not as confidently as I used to with such a limeted supply. But I will rebuild slowly but surely, and definatley will be removing all my tackle every nite because the locks did not stop them. I'd just like to see the lil punks that have the balls to do this in a well lit are with people all around. thanks again all of you!!!! Quote
eastkybass Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I know what you mean as far as the cranks. I had a small box full of them go up in a house fire a few years ago. I was about mad as you could get. I didn't have the money to replace all with new but what I did find was that at the local flea market there was a guy who owned a bait shop in town and to get rid of old stuff he would bring it down there and sell it at a discount. YOu could get 3 or 4 hard baits for around 10 bucks. You had to shift through alot of stuff you might not throw but it was worth it. I still stop down there from time to time to see what he has got. I just got a shimano scimitar spinning rod for 18 dollars off of him. Quote
G3 Fan Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Sorry to hear about this, I know what you are going through. I don't know if this is Ohio law or local law but when I tracked down some of my stolen items at a pawn shop I had to pay the pawn shop what they paid for the item to be able to get it back. The detective told me that is the only way they can get the pawn shops to cooperate with the police. I was a little hot, I did all of the leg work. I have zero tolerance for liars and thieves. I agree with Frog tog and P_Rock, throw your address and a list on the board. I understand pride and I way more apt to help a proud man when he is down than someone who always has their hand out. I don't have much in the way of hardbaits but I have tons of soft plastics. Quote
Guest Bountiful_Waters Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Let us help you out. You and I may never cross paths, but I know what it's like to be stolen from. Pride is stopping you from getting back on your feet when it comes to restocking. I expect that you would return the favor if it happens to someone else. Quote
logger Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I also have been robbed ( house and car) . Its a sickening feeling. Can you get any help from your homeowners insurance? They do cover property loss. t would be worth checking if you had a ton of gear. They covered my baseball gear when it got stolen from my car. I had a deductible but it helped ease the cost of replacement. Can't hurt to check. Quote
Shad_Master Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 One of the guys in my club just re-did the deck on his boat and put in new wiring -- he rigged his compartment lids with a sensor that is wired into the alarm system on his truck (when he plugs in the lights, it is connected) - that way if somebody opens the lids it sets off the truck alarm. Quote
PaparockArk Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 BOOYAH, Roadwarrior can verify I can afford to give away some tackle as he has seen less than half of what I have after I gave away a 1/3 to a step-son. Right RW? Quote
frogtog Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Sure wish you would let us help you. I literly have hundreds of crank baits that have never been opened, I have ungodly amounts of new spinner baits, worms. etc. I could open a tackel warehouse if I wanted but I had rather help someone in your situation than sell it. I know I have never met you but this what friends are for. Booya this is not a hand out, this what a good forum and good members can do for you. Quote
Triton21 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I would be willing to help also. I have a Locker Bar on my boat but if a theif wants in the will find a way around it. Kelley Quote
mattm Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I wish you would let us help to. Its not a hand out. When I first got into fishing the bait monkey moved in with me for like six months. I have stuff just sitting in my spare box or garage that has never been used and is like a year in a half old. I don't know if its anything you would want, but if you had the same thing stolen I would rather give it to you than it just sit in the garage. I'm WAY to lazy to open an e-bay account, sale everything I don't use for like 25% original value and then mail it off to whoever bought it in a timely fashion. Let us help. Quote
BOOYAH Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 I'm still waiting(hoping) the cops find the lil punks, as for now i'm searching all the forsale boards on all the sites i can find and ebay also. And tomorrow i'm going to check as many yardsales as i can and hopefully spot something. I know its a longshot but i just want the satisfaction of the punks gettin arrested, an hope to claim some of my stuff back. I checked into my house insurance an the deductable is about as much as what i lost so its not worth the hassle and raising my insurance. They win this time but i don't forget and i hope they screw up somehow so i can catch them. I set up a trail cam incase they come back. Atleast its all replaceable and no harm was done to my family or anything like that. Over time i will gain it back i have no doubt in that as I love fishing too much to sit here too long when the weathers so nice lol. Just hafta wait til the financial situation allows it. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 BOOYAH... I feel your pain. Some A$$hole stole my wife's Coach purse today. All her credit cards, check books, id... And they broke the window in her car. None of which is covered by insurance cause of our high deductible! > I hope that B@$T@rd gets run over by a semi today! Quote
