RiskKid. Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Well folks I'm just hoping to have a fishing day where nothing happens to the boat! Here is chapter two of a Mooks episodes on the lake with his new boat: Started out fine, we headed down Lake Barkley to the state line to do some TN topwater fishin....me and my buddy both put on a nice backlash on our first casts, should have been an ***. He did catch a nice 4 1/2 ponder on a frog.....after that it was downhill!!!!! My buddy was showing me how to handle the boat etc.... and I promise I'm getting better....but after a few moves down the lake we get ready to go again and I'm gettin pretty confident and can't wait to drive that Skeeter again.....so we decide to move and I run back, put on the life jacket, hop in the captains seat and pound that hotfoot to the floor....only to find out I forgot to do something.....UH OH.....did ya'll know the best way to screw up a trolling motor....yep thats it, just take off full bore with that baby still sitting down in the water.....great way to bend the shaft so it won't turn any more. That was at 9:00 am....fishing day over....time for the trip to the shop.....still waiting to hear what this will cost me. Now with my boat in the shop I was fortunate enough to hook up with another fellow to fish with on Monday. His boat.....I'm just a passenger.....early afternoon we get ready to move and his motor won't fire and we're all the way across and down the lake a pretty good bit. So that pretty well turned that fishin day into a long troll across the lake. Soooo...here's my question....WHO WANTS TO GO FISHIN WITH ME??? I promise I'm not makin this up! Quote
Zel Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Well at least you remembered to put the plug in. Guess what I forgot to do two trips ago? : I had to get wet in order to get that thing in while on the lake. :-/ Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 this stuff is too good to be made up. Reason I can say that is so far I've done everything you have. The TM deal I still do once in awhile. Pretty rare though. I usually pretty good at checking everything now before I put the hammer down. Check front of boat Check back of boat Make sure nothing will fly out Hammer down. its just a learning experience. bad thing is its expensive. best thing I can say is take your time and do everything the same every time. Just like loading and unloading the boat. Set yourself a routing and stick with it. That way you typically dont forget anything. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted June 6, 2007 Super User Posted June 6, 2007 Carl, have you ever heard the term "snake-bit?" Man, you are truely snake bit. ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 This is great, I can't wait for the whole Book to be written!! Risk, you need to read back to chapter 1 when Muddy and Ron were down at the dam. Muddy in the front with his legs crossed, cig going, leaning back in the front seat and Ron driving,....all tanned up and glittering with gold jewelery, going about 10MPH up in 2 ft of water w/ the T/M down!!! DON'T YOU REMEMBER??? For a bunch of misery, you've certainly gotten your $$ worth in smiles from us!! Think about it, it eases the pain and makes it kinda funny when you are anxious to go tell everyone on BR,lol. You're sense of humor and being able to laugh at yourself is what sets you apart!! This stuff is awesome,...MORE,.....MORE!! Quote
Cajun1977 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 every boat owner has done the trolling motor thing Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Hey Karl are you sure you had the trolling motor low enough it's supposed to scrape the bottom to make your own channel Quote
Super User senile1 Posted June 7, 2007 Super User Posted June 7, 2007 GMAN stated: The TM deal I still do once in awhile. Pretty rare though. I usually pretty good at checking everything now before I put the hammer down. I still do this once in awhile also. I always catch it before I take off and I haven't bent a trolling motor shaft, yet. The_Muddy_Man stated: Hey Karl are you sure you had the trolling motor low enough it's supposed to scrape the bottom to make your own channel Muddy, in addition to your Mook boating classes, you should add one on how to create structure on the lake bottom.
