Deb Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 We were out fishing Monday evening. The bass seemed to have developed a severe case of lock-jaw. As usual I was watching for wildlife. In the back of a small cove came a cracking noise, of course I looked. Just in time to see a snake falling from about 20 ft up in a tree just as an eagle came soaring over us. I wasn't quick enough to catch it on camera, shucks! We continued with our almost fruitless search for bass. One of those large gray heron was on the bank, there's lots of them here. I watched it creep up the bank, slowly. I was expecting to see it pluck a fish from the weeds but no...check out what he had for dinner... You just never know what you'll see..First time I've seen that! Quote
drakedeming Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 that is a great blue heron, it's on our chesapeake bay license plates in maryland, I see them everytime i fish and they will eat anything! Quote
Deb Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 Sorry, for years I've called them blue heron. Last week I was talking with a guide and he informed me they were grey heron. Go figure...Anyway, I think they're neat to watch! Just wish they'd understand they don't have to fly just cause I'm around. :-/ Quote
Bassboy15 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 ....wo thats awesome....I hate snakes....-gets chills- Quote
edbassmaster Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Great shot!! I love wildlife. I was fishing at sunrise a few weeks ago and a river otter came right up the water to me within 10 feet ( he didnt see me ) finally he did...and SWOOSH!! he dove underwater with a huge splash. It was the most awesome thing I ever witnessed in the outdoors. I was in such shock I didnt even think of my camera. I didnt know they were even in PA but I looked on the web, and they are. Nice job gettin those pics!! Quote
Bassboy15 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 We have an otter that lives in my backyard pond..haha it scares me all the time...lol I think he likes to play games with me... I'll be sitting down fishing or something and like 2 feet away he'll pop up...he's a goofy kid... ;D Quote
justfishin Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Great pic. Thats half of the fun for me while fishing, watching the great outdoors unfold under my eyes. I see deer, turkeys, foxes, eagles, etc do all sorts of neat things while on the water. Again, thanks for the pics, way cool stuff. Quote
Guest avid Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I sorta have a pet great blue heron. We like to fish the same spots. When I catch one he'll fly over and stand on the bank I've been known to toss him a dink every so often. If I throw it right, he'll catch it in his bill, then flip it up and gulp it down head first. I call him hector. He tells me where the fish are. I pay him in small keeper bass. It's stricktly business. Quote
Deb Posted May 25, 2007 Author Posted May 25, 2007 Wonder if Hector has a cousin, Herman in Ky? Maybe we could work out the same sort of arrangement. By the way Avid, no winner yet, but I'm still trying!!! Quote
