speed worm lovers

for those of you fellas that love zoom's speed worms, check out the new ones that are bigger. i think they are called the magnum speed worms. i just picked up a couple bags of them monday and can't wait to use them this friday.

I saw these yesterday on BPS's website.  I have been wanting these to come out for a couple of years...basically ever since they came out with the original 5 3/4".  I even tried emailing Zoom to cohearse them to make the larger size.  To say the least I am excited.  9" would have been better, but hey, I'll take it!

Still sitting on about a dozen bags of the original speed worms (before ultravibe) that I only use for special occasions, like when the money is on the line  ;D May have to try a bag of the larger ones just for the heck of it though. Thanks for the heads up.

You can still buy the original speed worms, just not everyone carries them.  Tackle Warehouse stocks them...

Very cool!! Around here, everybody stopped carrying them and went to the ultravibe versions. Had to eliminate the old stock before they could carry the new I guess. Hopefully my supply will last a little while. I don't throw them near as much up here as they do on some of those more southerly locales. Just a few months out of the year when they get on 'em good.

are you guys swimming them or what? i have had pretty good luck pitching them in and around cover and on c-rigs.

I use it almost exclusively for swimming over emergent grass. Ideal set-up is 5 ft flat with grass 3 ft off the bottom. I Tx rig it with a light screw in weight (1/8 oz), let it sink to the right depth, and swim it in with a steady retreive. It's kind of like a finesse spinnerbait. The tail puts out a lot of vibration.

There things gained their poluarity down in FL over grass (Ding-a-ling worms).

Just make sure and rig it where the hook is in line with the seam.

the 5 3/4" version has been my goto bait for the last couple of years - Junebug Red seems to work best in my area.  I T-rig 'em and crawl/hop 'em off the bottom with just enough weight to get 'em down.  I will look for the bigger ones next time I'm at BPS.
