logger Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 I have to vent. My dad and I were fishing on my home waters this weekend. We had been anchored on a flat for a good 30 minutes when another boat make a run by us to the opposite end of the shore line we were fishing. No problem. So they are a good 500 yards away, no problem. Well they get closer, and closer finally they actually trolled right between my boat and the shoreline we were casting to which was 15 yards away. And then he has the balls to sit there and act like nothing is wrong! "How's it going? Having any luck?" I was fuming, and then I noticed this was the same jerk who came into a small cove with me last year and actually bumped my boat with his he was so close. If my dad wasn't with me I may have come completely unglued. WE WERE ANCHORED!!! Its not like we just appeared out of no where. I can't believe it was the same person. This guy ticks me off. I should have taken his picture for you like EdBassmaster did with the video of the jerk who started fishing next to him. Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 14, 2007 Super User Posted May 14, 2007 I would have had to say something before he got in between you and the shore.... at least something like hey we've got lines out that you are about to run over. Or if it was a bad day, people usually get the point when you bounce a lure off the side of their boat and then say "Gosh you are way closer than i thought, mind giving me some space in this 25,000 acre lake?" edbassmaster Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Dude, I was getting mad just reading that. I was on the Delaware on Saturday on my friends boat...we were in a small cove and these idiots came in right next to us..." Any luck? " Unbelivable, you got the whole river and you come up on us. Being the gentleman he was, Rick was polite, but angry as hell!! We should start a little thing here at BR, we photo these bums and put em up here ;D ;D Quote
Super User Root beer Posted May 14, 2007 Super User Posted May 14, 2007 I must be only rebel on this board. If someone does that to me, I'd be standing up to him getting mad. I respect your space on water if you respect mine. Simple as that. However I'm guility of stealing someone spot here the story. Last thursday I was in a tournament. I pulled up at end of a rip rap, start working my way down right when I get the corner of it where the rip rap curves underneath the bridge I see someone fishing there, by that time I already casted my bait I was like ah jeeze didnt see you there. Then I hooked a bass, caught a solid 2.5 pounder right in front of that man. I couldn't tell if he was mad, but he defitnely wasn't excited he didnt even applause me. So I apologize to him and said "I didnt see you at first because I started over there." Then he goes "I'll accept your apology if you let me keep the fish to take him home and eat it." I said "no can do I'm in a tournament I'm weighting this bad boy in." and he cursed at me... Ah well I try to apologize. Quote
edbassmaster Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Tell that but nugget to go buy fish at the fish market...cheap ***. Sorry. Quote

PaparockArk Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 While I am not advocating this nor have I done the following, though I have been seriously tempted at times. I have seen other fishermen and even one fishing guide use well placed casts to get their point across that running your boat were others are casting is potentially dangerous. Personally, I think the confrontation that can result is of highly questionable value. I do wonder if the object lesson ever sinks in to a person that is of such obviously dense character (no pun intended). Seriously, I would take down the boat identification on the perps boat and report them to the appropriate law enforcement agency that is charge of boat safety. Video does wonders in prosecuting such dim bulbs so it would do more than a confrontation to get the message across. Therefore, if you have a video camera for preserving those golden moments of catching the BIG ONE, it can serve double duty for catching the "dumb ones" also. Sometimes a hefty fine from law enforcement does wonders to educate! Quote
Ghost Rider Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Well I posted something like this on my first time on this forum....except I was not in a bass boat; I was in my jet boat pulling my anchor into the boat. My boat sits real low to the water, to the point a wake can sink me. This bass boat comes hauling down the bank of the lake and buzzes me. I dropped the line and had to cut hard left to break the wake. It was my first meet and did not want to get into a fight due to the fact jet boat all ready have a bad rep like biker clubs have. I got video of us running and you can clearly see that same bass boat and a few others in the lanes we were running. The lake we were on was big enough for every one. I do not run in the stump fields or in rough water our little area is small. I try not to get in no ones way or bug the fishermen out there, but some times I got to pass them....I do drop out of warp speed and wave and move on out. The videos are not in order it just the way they were built but you can see for you self. Oh some of those boats were running triple digits. Have fun watch them if you see me out there pull up to the beach and have a cold beer and lets talk boats, engines, fishing and ETC. I would also like to add you should not anchor in the boating lanes it's just rude. Quote

I will still post his picture here and complain about him. Quote
justfishin Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I think the next time he gets that close you should put your hands on your hips and tell him in a real sissy voice. Hey girl, your cute, want to go out? , I just loves me some big strong fishin men, and then proceed to follow him and every time he catches a fish tell him, " You go girl ". That ought to keep him away, lol. ;D ;D ;D Quote

Super User Alpster Posted May 18, 2007 Super User Posted May 18, 2007 I think more times than not, it's just plain ignorance. Newbies who just got their first boat or their first few fishing trips. A couple of times I have just verrrry politely said "you must be new to fishing around here and I just want to let you know that most fishermen won't take kindly to your boat coming so close and will likely make trouble for you." I have always gotten a sincere apology and thanks for the heads up. It's also regional, here in my world (NJ) on the little stocked trout streams a dozen guys will literaly stand shoulder to shoulder and fish, I'm talking lines tangled together and they don't seem to mind. Where I grew up in South Louisiana you could get shot for getting much closer than eyeshot. Ronnie Quote
RecMar8541 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I have a little known tactic for close quarters fishing. Although it is my secret weapon, Ill share it. The night before the big outting, I do a double burrito fiesta! This provides chemical reenforcement of my personal space. Hangs around longer than tear gas, and more effective. Seldom has a hazmat team been called, and since it is a completely human bodily function can not be considered assault. I would like to offer one small piece of advice on this tactic. Lots a cheese, we wouldnt want anything getting away from us now would we? Quote
Super User Root beer Posted May 18, 2007 Super User Posted May 18, 2007 ronnie, are you telling me if one fella steals another fella fish or lines get tangle, etc the other fella wont mind? Dude, this is in NJ? I thought NJ was suppose be bunch tough guys lol. In south we are protective of our hunting and fishing spots. ;D. It our religon. Quote

Ronnie Ronnie, actually this is a common occurrence on Missouri Trout streams also, including those where the trout naturally reproduce. Especially on the opening day of the season, these guys stand shoulder to shoulder. Quote
Ghost Rider Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Thats some funny stuff i have seen fights over ski rope getting run over... you the as the summer gets hotter so does peoples temps..... here is a topic for this also. giving aid to a boater in distress ...... i have seen and my self been stuck in the water with out power for more than one reason and just watch boats fly by with even a wave. I got towed in by a party barge a few months back out of all the boats in the area they were the only ones who stopped and gave aid. Which just suxs. I carry spare parts, filters , tools etc in my truck for my self but i have given them away just to help get a fellow boater going again. Oh check this out ... on my last boat i ran out of gas and had to switch tanks. As i was switching tanks i drifted into racing lanes for sail boats. There was a boat out there for the race at the turn and that due cussed me out while i was getting her going again. Once under power i made it to him and told him the local law of Texas and if he wanted to keep it up in front of my kids i would be happy to step over into his boat and talk about it. He did not want to ;D Quote
