Guest Bountiful_Waters Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Guys, if you have a motorcycle, please, please wear your helmet. I don't care how good of a driver you are, there are many people on the road who are not. A good friend, age 21, was killed tuesday after someone pulled into his path. No helmet. I can't be positive, but I think his chances would have been much better with a helmet. It can happen to you! Ryan B. Phegley, 21, of Linton passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Greene County General Hospital as the result of a motorcycle accident. Born in Sullivan on April 30, 1986, he was the son of Michelle A. Bailey. He worked for Peabody Coal Co. with Air Quality North Plant in Wheatland. While in high school, he was a member of the FFA where he served as the chapter vice-president and was also a graduate of the Class of 2005 at White River Valley High School. Quote
Bassboy15 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I agree, people need to start wearing helmets. This should almost be a law. I would be interested in seeing the results of deaths before wearing a helmet as a law, and after. I think this would be a huge difference. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Well I plan on getting a bike and wearing a helment all the time. As for the law part. Theres only like 3 or 4 states that don't have a helment law. The three I know of are WI, IA, and CO. Quote
Cephkiller Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Sorry to hear about that, BW. I drove by the accident scene shortly after it occurred. I didn't know the deceased personally (although I know much of his family). Quote
Fish Man Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 i believe maryland doesnt have a helmet law either.that or its delaware many people round here dont wear them and its hard to tell as close to the border i am Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 You know I have never been on one Where I come from having the wind in your hair meant Coup de Ville Top Down. It seems to me an adult should have a choice, I mean there is a risk in just driving one. By law we gotta wear seat belts. wear helmets, can't smoke unless its in your freakin basement WHEN DOES IT END. If a guy buys a bike and doesn't want to wear a helmet thats kind of his choice wouldnt think? Quote
Fish Man Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 i agree with muddy....yes there is a degree of stupidity(for lack of a better word) involved with not wearing one but you shouldnt be forced to. even though they arent that dangerous your still gonna get pretty f*@$^& up if ya get hit regardless.yes the helmet helps an all but it seems as though the people who make laws dont trust anybody an feel the need to "baby" us. BTW...IMO a helmet can only do so much good...lets say a motorcycle going 50 down a road gets cut off or broad sided by a car going 50 your gonna get shot off like a sling shot and that helmet cant absorb that or protect the rest of your body Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 It's a part of life to lose people around you but I have lost 5 friends, 3 quite close, to motorcycle accidents. Not anti-bike or anything, if anything, I was "built" to ride motorcross and love it but on the road, the risk variables are too high for me. USE YOUR HEAD, and protect your skull. BRAIN BUCKETS ARE A MUST (trust me, they won't mess up your hair-do more than a 60 ft slide on the pavement will) BTW...IMO a helmet can only do so much good...lets say a motorcycle going 50 down a road gets cut off or broad sided by a car going 50 your gonna get shot off like a sling shot and that helmet cant absorb that or protect the rest of your body Broken bones heal, brains don't. With a helmet, you at least have a chance. Quote

EXACTLY Muddy ......if they want to get serious about this i think ppl in cars and trucks should wear um .They get head trauma also USUALLY why a car or truck accident is a fatality, from head trauma. It should be a choice i mean ill wear a helmet when its cold and at night anyway but DURING the day 110 deg with humididty BLAH i hate it i ride also ive seen a lot of accidents 98% are cuased by ppl pulling out ,the accident report usaully says i didnt see um TAKE there license away then. I have my CDL each yr i have to get a pyhsical done which includes eyesight tests and hearing AND also there are 2 million drivers on our roads with no driving knowledge driving ILLEGAL Quote
Super User Alpster Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 I ride 10,000+ miles a year and I wear a helmet, even in states where it's legal to ride without. I don't agree with helmet laws, seatbelt laws, can't eat french fries laws, etc.. I think the government should stay out of people's personal business. I can't let anything happen to this particularly shiney head, so I wear a helmet. JMHO Ronnie Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Hey Ronnie with your head it's hard to figure out wheter you are wearing a helmet or not Quote
RiskKid. Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Hey Ronnie with your head it's hard to figure out wheter you are wearing a helmet or not Hey smarta...s I resemble that remark No question you should always wear a helmet but you can't legislate everything....IMHO this choice should just be left to plain common sense. skillet Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Common sense or not, the goverment should not have the right to legislate itself the power to play Mommy and Daddy > As Ever, Skillet Quote
