Bassboy15 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Man, I'm going to high school next year and all this stuff is kind of creepy. Do you think this problem will get worse or get better as time passes? Here's Story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18590480/ BOULDER, Colo. - A high school was closed for the day on Thursday, shortly after being locked down amid unconfirmed reports that two masked men were seen entering the building. Officers from various law enforcement agencies could be seen outside Boulder High School, and the entrances to the parking lot and the building were blocked off. NBC affiliate KUSA reported that a SWAT team responded to the school after a school worker reported seeing two men in camouflage with ski masks inside the building. The Boulder Valley School District Communications Director, Briggs Gamblin, said a cafeteria worker arrived at work Thursday morning and saw two men inside the school wearing camouflage gear with ski masks. Gamblin adds that there are no reports of weapons but the worker contacted both police and district officials. Classes normally begin at 7:30 a.m. but were delayed until 10 a.m. so authorities could conduct a sweep of the building. Officials closed it for the day shortly after that. Boulder Police spokeswoman Julie Brooks confirmed that authorities were on the scene, but she released no further details. Messages left with the principal and the school district were not immediately returned. The school is blocks from the University of Colorado campus. Quote
Cephkiller Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 It will definitely get worse. God is out of the schools. Mothers are out of the home. Zero tolerance policies don't allow kids to vent there frustrations in less harmful ways. Guns are outlawed in school zones to everyone who obeys the law. I'm sure there are more reasons. These just came to mind. Quote
Troutfisher Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Right Cephkiller, I forgot to mention guns as well. The new tactic in schools is "take away all guns from everyone" and all the crime will stop. Instead, innocent people cannot arm themselves from danger. Quote
logger Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 This stuff is scray and I fear it will only get worse as well. I blame a far too liberal society/media where everything is OK and taboo things are just perfect for sweeps week. I am a high school teacher and we had 4 kids cruise into the parking lot this fall with a shotgun and ammo in the trunk of their car and a dozen roses which they were going to throw on every body as their calling card. Luckily our students here tipped off the admin. and the cops were waiting for them. One of the Traverse City schools just had a kid put in the loony bin because he was planning an attack and they found guns in his room at home. And we just had our second lock down drill of the year yesterday. Quote

RecMar8541 Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 For some reason this strikes me as bunk. for one, someone intent to do harm isnt gonna visit in full get up first. seond, only one person saw them, unless i am reading the report wrong possibly a burglary?????? Quote

I'm a parent and i don't have aproblem with parents being held accountilbe for some of this. Quote

Super User Root beer Posted May 11, 2007 Super User Posted May 11, 2007 My sophomore year we had several bomb threats and spent whole day at the local expo center. I told them this is false imprisonment. They should've sent us home it would've been safer. I mean the bomb threat could've been part of plan to get everyone at expo center. The expo center basically like a basketball arena so everyone all out in open like that a gunner or terrist or whatever could've easily spray bunch machine gun rounds at everyone. But ya, dude. It just crazy and pointless. We had few bomb threats here, but they never found no device or any thing. However a friend of mine who loves to play paintball went paintballing all weekend came to school left an airsoft gun, paintball gun, and something eles in his car somebody tip off the school secruity and now he at a private school in virgina last I heard. He harmless kid. I know him well, his mom works and voluneteer at the churches and stuff he a great kid but he just left his paintball gun in his car. He forgot about it being in a trunk. It just happens. It quiet sad. Quote
Troutfisher Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 This year we have had 3 bomb threats and last year we had 2. One year we had to sit on the bleachers outside in the snow. > Quote

Super User cart7t Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 I believe very strongly that that is the problem. Parents don't know/care what their kids are doing. At some point our country as a whole needs to place more importance on family and good family values and less emphasis on doing whatever makes you feel good, or career, or what's flashy or sexy. My students have TV when they get home every night, not mom, not dad, not family dinner, but tv is there, its sad. And look at the crap that is on there for them to watch. Parents should be held accountable for guns in their house, but have you noticed what the story is ? "The school the school this.. the school that.. Where are the parents? No wonder these kids have no sense of responsibility! The media won't even hold them accountable! I agree that a school shares responsiblity with the parents for their education and safety. But a school cannot replace a loving caring family, no matter how good the school is. ***Now I am not saying ALL or EVERY KID or EVERY PARENT because there are some great kids and some great parents doing a wonderful job I wouldn't be a teacher if I didn't believe that, its just that in my school they are far and few between. **** Who would have ever thought it would be dangerous to get an education? Ding, Ding, Ding! I've said it in other threads and I'll say it again here. Why isn't the press looking more closely at the home lifestyle these kids are coming from? Probably because too many couples who think they're "good" parents would be able to relate I'm sure. Quote

Guest avid Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Who would have ever thought it would be dangerous to get an education who ever thought that a teacher would refer to a hospital for the mentally ill as a "looney bin"? Quote
Fish Man Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 there is no way id ever trust the kids at my school with guns.there are kids that shouldnt even be trusted with forks at lunch an then again there are the fools who think they are thugs and act as tho they are around a gun all the time but never are and would shoot up half the school if given a gun my main point is that at my middle school witch is much smaller than the high school i will be attending next year there is roughly 30-40 kids that arent educated about guns and gun safety to every 1 that is.and even with the kids that are educated this is a bad idea to give a student a gun in a school.if they really need people who are armed to help protect students it needs to be police or security guards that are adults and educated an trained in how to deal with a sitution rather than a student who could pull out a gun for a matter as small as a simple argument or a fist fight Quote

Anyone seen what a AXE or Machete will do to a person.Being shot is bad enough but using a AXE on a person is gruesome Quote
