Super User Root beer Posted May 7, 2007 Super User Posted May 7, 2007 Just because you have roger clemen back dont mean you will win a world series, so get it out of your mind!! I hate the Yankee that 1 year 25 million dollar was a waste. They still wont win a world series. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Steinbrener sealed their fate KARMA will not let this work out HE IS OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO BUY THE WORLD SERIES. Like I wrote on the BB Sticky: The Yankees have a Rotation of Petite( Who has already thrown his best games) and a series of over the hill and / or hurt pitchers, So he takes this guy , who has been dle for a time, does have some awesome stff and longevity pay him 25 MILLION AND THEY THINK THE SEERIS IS IN THE BAG I pray they finish so far in the cella their butts are cold and wet ;D Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 7, 2007 Super User Posted May 7, 2007 Steinbrener sealed their fate KARMA will not let this work out HE IS OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO BUY THE WORLD SERIES. Well if you look back at recent history, I think buying a series has had decent results- 4 world series titles since '96. I only saw Boston on that list one time in about 90 years, do I need glasses? All in fun, Muddy! Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Yea your right Flech but Boston could loose a one man race, they are good at tanking!!!!!!!!!!!! On the otherhand my Mets usually wait til the last day of the seaon to forget how to hit the ball ;D Quote
zara spook Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 listen fellas, the Yanks are only back 5 and a half games back right now. Clemens can make that deficit up at least enough to pull them into the playoffs and then the sticks usually come alive. Even if he only pitches 130-150 innings it's worth the money...if you can afford him he's worth it....oh and to all you Boston fans out there...you tried to buy him too so don't be high and mighty claiming that the Yanks buy and pay for players to win series. It's like fishing...if you can afford a brand new 14ft bass tracker, why buy an old rusty canoe? Quote

llPa1nll Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Yankees do own more series titles no doubt in arguing that. Will Clemens help NYYs out?, of course, hell I think they were getting bat girls and bat boys up in the pen to pitch an inning of relief a couple times. Do I think that NYY have an automatic ticket to the WS, thats a no. There needs to be some big changes in that rotation and allot of guys getting healthy and the bullpen to get some rest. It as always will be an interesting year. The Sox and Yankees always seem to make it come down to the last week of the season. Speaking of history the Yankees do own the biggest post season choke in MLB history as well. Quote
tallydude Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 C'mon guys, don't get angry because the Yankees have an owner that is willing to go out and spend money on the team. I really don't get why other teams get so mad about this. Sounds like Royals, Marlins, and Mariners fans should really be angry at their own owners. Besides, the Yankees wouldn't be able to spend like they do if they didn't have the fan support to pull it off. Sounds to me more like jealousy than anything else. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Hey Westpalmdude That ower STINBRENER is the biggest proponet against revenue sharing. The NFL realized hw important this is eons ago! Now Steinbrenner has all that Cabel $ thats where he gets it from. The New York Yankees Cable money can pay for around 15 starting pitchers in the AL east alone. The Mariners cable contract wont even cover their 5 starters this year NOW HERES THE POINT THE YANKEES HAVE TO PLAY SOMEBODY>>>>>>> AND MONEY NEEDS TO BE DISTRIBUTED AS A LEAGUE OR mlb MAY SOME DAY TANK PS The yankees do not get to win it all every year just because their owner is manipulating the dough Quote

All in fun, Muddy! EXACTLY!!!! Thanks for bringing this into the proper and correct historical prospective......Keith, you are a gentleman and a scholar Well I have a question for you guys. What team has won the most world series in the last year??? That team would be the St Louis Cardinals. That is all that really matters since this season isnt going to count since Carp is injured and we are already done. But anyways, the yanks signing clemens is going to help them a lot but only every 5th day. Who is still gonna pitch between then. Wang is way overrated and Petite's best years are far behind him. And I cant even name the other two guys that pitch for them that arent injured. Clemens is great but he is old and so are his legs. I dont think that will be a problem though until the playoffs. I am already sick of this story and it is just beginning. It is way overhyped and overpublicized just like Dice-K. You may say he is a hof pitcher but he isnt anymore. You dont even know how he is going to pitch yet. The Yanks are ruining baseball with the money they spend. I have never been a fan of the salary cap but now i think it is a must. Brian Cashman might be one of the worst GM's in the league. He has 3 world series championships under his belt but that was not his team. He became GM in 1998 and they won the WS in 98, 99, and 00. That was the previous GM's team. Then he started spending money and messed up the team. They have not won a World Series since 2000. In that time The Cards and Sox have both won WS. The Yanks have been to two since then and lost to the Marlins who's Salary was virtually nothing compared to the Yankees. In the 90's the yanks spent a lot of money but nothing compared to what they have now. And the last time they won a world series was 2000. So it has been 7 years since they won the world series. Yeah, that sounds like buying the WS is workin good. You love Arod now but wait till Mr. April reaches October. Quote
zara spook Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Sounds like Royals, Marlins, and Mariners fans should really be angry at their own owners. I second that motion. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Quote
RiskKid. Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Sounds like my Yankees are getting under some folks skin already.....and it's only the beginning of May..... Quote
Super User Root beer Posted May 7, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 7, 2007 I think yankee need to quit buying big shot players that not going to help their cause. They need players that have desired to win other then making 20 million dollars a year. Just my 2 cent. They sure as heck aint showing it right now. Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 OH MY GAWD! I am like blowing up while reading this! Ok first of all the yankees getting Clemens was inevitable from the start of the season. Everyone knew they were gonne get him. Not only does he still have great stuff, but the guy is a mentor. He will rub off on Wang, Hughes, and Karstens and probablly turn them into better players. Someone wanna explain to me how Wang is overrated and Petite is done? Wang had 19 wins lat year and nearly pitched a perfect game the other day! Petite has been getting screwed due to lack of run support and bad relief pitching. He has pitched 3 gem games and all have been ND's. Both the Redsox and the Mets make big moves every offseason but no one says they "buy the series." Long live Steinbrenner!! See you in October! Quote
Super User Root beer Posted May 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 8, 2007 Like ya'll make it to october, I wish my braves would quit choking in playoff. :-/ Quote
logger Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I have to agree with Muddy. Signing Clemens to buy the world series has undoubtedly angered the baseball "gods" and has hexed the whole thing for the yankees. The world series can be bought as the Marlins showed but you don't do it by buying a 45 year old arm. That aside I do believe that Clemens can and will be productive, but it won't be the difference maker come playoff time. He has too much experience to not do well even if he's not throwing 95 plus he's still got good stuff and too much knowledge not to do well (if his body holds up). Plus with a lot of the young arms they have now he will be a good mentor. Look at what Kenny Rogers did for the Tiger's pitching staff last year. Quote
llPa1nll Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Ehhh, Its still way to early, Period. Yankees have more than ample time to turn things around and catch up. Clemens will help them out but the AL East is allot harder to pitch in compared to the NL Central, thats a fact. As for Roger going to NY it was a pretty much a no brainer. The NYYs pitching staff was in shambles at best. He signed with the Yankees so he could feed that over inflated ego of his. The "Roger comes to the Yankees Rescue" headlines. Also dont over look the fact that his $28 mill 1 yr contract, makes him the highest paid player in MLB history. Yes its true he had to best Arod's contract by $1 million. Other than that go Red Sox 8-) Quote
Hawgin Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Not only does he still have great stuff, but the guy is a mentor. He will rub off on Wang, Hughes, and Karstens and probablly turn them into better players. I'm going to take you to task on this one. How is this great mentor going to rub off on the younger players when part of his agreement to return was that he will only be with the club on the days that he pitches. The other pitchers are not going to see the hours of prep work he puts in between starts. Instead they are going to see a guy who breezes in when he wants, makes his start, and then disappears for the next 4 days. The youngers Yanks are going to see a guy who 1.) doesn't start playing until mid-season 2.) comes and goes as he dang well pleases 3.) gets paid a ton of money and adoration for bascially being a hired gun. You better hope he doesn't rub off on the younger guys. Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 This is a huge misconception though. Everyone pictures roger sitting by his pool on his off days. The guy will be studying tape, going to his son's games, and helping out the team. He said in his postgame talk that one of his goals was to help out the yankees pitching staff in any way he can, teaching the younger guys some tricks of the trade too. Quote

I would be shocked to see them not make it. What I mean, They alway make playoff, but somehow they'll choke and it'll cost them a world series ring. >. I just hope it dont happen this year. Hudson and smoltz are both off to a great start. Hopefully this can continue and the bat can stay hot and maybe Braves Vs Red sox in world series. We'll see. Like you said we just got done with first month of baseball. It got plenty of baseball left. Quote
