Ok.  Maybe I'm confused.  It wouldn't be the first time, and it surely won't be the last.  Glenn, you and the Mods have my respect and I think you run a great site, but I don't understand the reasoning behind closing some threads.  I do understand the rules regarding religious and political threads and I agree with them.  (Not that you need my agreement.  It's your site and your business.)  The thread I'm thinking of at the moment is the "Makes Me Sick" thread in the general forum.  Many people were still posting but, due to some repetition the thread was closed.  There was some debate in the thread but nothing really got out of hand.  I was just curious as to what the criteria are for closing a thread, other than argumentative or disrespectful posts.  I can see that this might depend on the thread and could involve some subjectivity as you probably prefer to act before the arrows fly.

Glenn may want to respond in greater detail, but your quote (above) pretty much sums it up.

Content, tone and direction are all considerations.

I think that Glenn has guidelines that he follows, but let's remember.  This is his site.

He has absolute autonomy in deciding what stays and what goes.

So while he may have published parameters for thread closings, he can and will choose to lock threads for reasons others than those liseted.  Some of which may not be readily apparant to us the members.

I think this is the exception but it has happened before and will no doubt happen again.

The thread wasn't/hasn't been closed.

I merely stated it was getting repetitive, so it's either time to move on, or add something that hasn't already been said.  In addition, the thread is starting to move in a tangent about FLW tournaments.  That new topic should be handled via a new thread.

So... when a thread starts to lose traction, wanders, gets repetitive, etc. then the mods and I will jump in to either kick-start it, keep the conversation focused and on track, or let it die a natural death.

senile, every now and then something is posted that involves catch and release either directly or indirectly and people like to take a "public" stand on their beliefs....you've been here long enough to see a few of them.

That particular thread was getting repetitive to the point that nothing "new" could be said and once a thread goes stale like that, thats usually when "the arrows fly", as you say.....and the C&R debate goes on all the time. Some are for it, some are not.....neither is wrong and neither side can WIN.

EDIT: Dangit Glenn, you obviously type faster than me.

Thanks for the responses, guys.  I'm a happy member.  Curiosity sometimes gets the best of me.   ;)

I thought I had looked at this thread and didn't see a reply button so I assumed it was closed.  I was finished with posting to it anyway.
