Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Blistering speed around the 1/2 turn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Street Sense made the move of a lifetime to the inside I cnt believe it was so clean not a foul inquiry at all!!!!!!!!!! One of the great Derbys of all time. Quote
justfishin Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Yes Mud, that was a pretty sweet race. I was surprised. I love to see a horse come from the back of the field in a race so important and win. I had my money on Home Spun as he is a solid horse for sure but hey, you know horse racing. I would like to see a Triple Crown Winner before I die. There have been some great horses the last few years. Breeding is bringing out the elite in this sport. The last few years has brought us Barbaro and Smarty Jones to name a few so we have a good chance of a TC winner within the next few years. I love them horses !!! Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I have an uncahsed 2 dollar ticket and a program when SECRETARIAT won the Belomont, my Uncle Tony took me to the races that day! The only TC winner I saw in person! Quote
justfishin Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 That is way cool. You are lucky to have seen that one. I really thought we had a TC winner in Smarty Jones. What a awesome horse. I think it will be a while until another horse comes around like him. That horse was unbelievable in the last stretch of most of his races. Go figure. I guess you never know. Here is a excellent excerpt from a article of why I loved this horse and thought he would win the Triple Crown. On the road to the Belmont, Smarty Jones pulled off a rather unique feat. He won the first eight races of his career, at eight different distances, at five different tracks, with the same jockey aboard. His maiden win was a 6 furlong sprint, and he followed those up with wins at 7 furlongs, 1 mile and 70 yards, 1 mile, 1 1/16 miles, 1 1/8 miles, 1 1/4 miles, and finally 1 3/16 miles at Pimlico. More amazingly, he not only won every race but always had the lead by the 1/8 pole never to let anybody by afterward. Here is a good site Muddy and also, a good story on Smarty Jones. www.horse-races.net/library/article-smarty.htm Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Ill check it out after i finsih my term paper today. I havent bet on a horse in years but i know Belmont. ejtaylor822 Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 That was a great race. On my list of things-to-do-before-graduating-to-Heaven is to drink a mint-julip at the derby. Was reading the coverage from the local TV site and was checking out the pictures. The champions picture caught my eye. Check out Street Smart's face. I'm telling you, he's mugging for the camera! http://www.wral.com/sports/image/1388725/?img_list=1388504%2C1388510%2C1388536%2C1388725&ref_id=1388499 At least it looks that way - Love that picture. Secretariat is one my favorite athlete's of all time. I remember watching him race with my Grandfather - on TV of course. Anyone see the special on Barbaro last night on NBC? That was really good - heartbreaking - but a good and well done program. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted May 6, 2007 Super User Posted May 6, 2007 That was a great race. On my list of things-to-do-before-graduating-to-Heaven is to drink a mint-julip at the derby. Me too. And the infield at the Preakness. It would be cool to make the whole TC sweep one year. Quote
