Cigarlover 1 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I got up this morning to find that my Monitor on my new Dell is toast. It briefly turns white and then slowly goes to black and that's it. It's like it's been fried and I've only had for 2 months. Anybody else have any problems with Dell monitors? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 got a brand new flat screen 19" no problems as of yet. Quote

Bassboy15 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Only suggestion I have is to get away from Dell, sorry all...I would also just go to a few garage sells this weekend and you'll probably have some luck with a quick 10 dollar quality monitor?...Welp hope this helps Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I amcurious why you say htis. My girlfriend bought me the Dell and is very computer Savy. I you have problems with the regular customer service number try calling the numbers for businesses or sales. After making 15 calls to RCA customer support about a TV repair with no results I made one call to the sales department and the problem was resolved. p.s., the people answering the business and sales lines speak great English. Cigarlover 1 Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 Well I came home from work today unhooked all the cords, plugged them all back in and viola the monitor works again just like it did the day we bought it. Hope it's just a freak thing. Hey, as far as the custome service thing, when we got this PC we had to call customer service. We ended up doing an instant message customer service and it was so much easier than calling India. If anybody ever has to work with Dell CS I highly recommend doing the chat thing. Much easier than calling waiting on hold for 45 mins and talking to someone you can't understand. Thanks All. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Well, Cigarlover Glad to hear everything's OK. . . for now. Thanks for the tips on CS from you and replica. I only had to talk to them when they shipped the wrong stuff when we first order the new PC. I DID get a set of surround sound speakers out of the deal though. I guess that might be worth four hours on the phone with CS. :-/ Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted May 4, 2007 Super User Posted May 4, 2007 I just knew everything would work out. A good old cold restart will solve 98% of all problems. Dell, and many others, provide very dependable products, and the monitors these days rarely, if ever fail. Your computer will crash before your monitor will. Quote
Guest avid Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Long Mike has it right. Rebooting is the easiest fix out there and it often is all that's needed. I have a 17" flat screen made by AG Neovo. Excellent clarity, but it never took off in the US because it uses optical coatings to get the superior visual quality. I've had it over three years and it's still bright and working fine. It has to cleaned with care and is definitly not a monitor where kids are users. My dell is the dimension 4600 that is almost 4 years old. I was wise enough to get the optional 2.6 ghz processor and expanded ram. I'm really glad I did. the various add ons over the years haven't slowed me down. I would like a 19" screen, but I can wait. ejtaylor822 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Our oldest Dell is about three years old. Got one for my parents a couple of years ago. Haven't had a single problem with any of them - CPU, monitor, disk, etc. I am a big fan of Dell. Next one will be a Dell - if not a new Apple ;D . We have close to 3,000 at work of which about 2400 are desktop the rest laptop. Almost all desk units (including docking stations) have the Dell monitors which have been very reliable. In the data center we have over 200 Dell servers. Everything from the pizza-box units up to the 6-ways. They are very reliable and stable for us. My belief is that you can't go wrong with a Dell. They are like Fender guitars - you can find better, but for the money you can't beat 'em. Eddie Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted May 4, 2007 Author Posted May 4, 2007 I definately agree with you guys. Other than the little monitor glitch I haven't had any problems out of a Dell. We have em at work and also have a Dell laptop that we've had for 4 yrs that we haven't had the first problem with. I would still definately recommend them. For the price you can't beat em. Quote
