huskertko Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Wish me luck, today is my first day as a stay at home dad. I left my previous job due to extreme pay cuts, and would only have been making enough to pay for daycare, and I didn't like the idea of working just so I could pay someone else to watch my kids. I am looking for a P/T job at nights so I can get out of the house and make a little money, but I am officially a stay at home dad. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 30, 2007 Super User Posted April 30, 2007 I know that can be a difficult thing for a lot of dudes, but how do you feel about it? Quote
huskertko Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 I am actually kinda excited about it. It has always bothered me that my kids would spend 8-9 hours a day with someone else and then I only get to see them for a couple of hours at night. I also hated the fact that we always heard about the "firsts" from our daycare provider, the first crawl, the first steps, the first words, etc, now I can see and hear them for myself. Quote
Bass Smacker Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Go man. kids first. as long as you other half is cool with it its all good. A part time job is good to get you out of the house. and pay for the bass habbit... ;) Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 30, 2007 Super User Posted April 30, 2007 You'll do just fine. I did it myself better than 20 years ago. I think that may have been the best thing I ever did. It was also one of the toughest. There ain't no time off. Good luck. Cheers, GK Quote

Guest hibachi Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 My wife is going to night school, and I am staying home with my kids a 3 year old girl and 2 year old boy from 4 in the afternoon, on. It's actually pretty cool having one-on-one time with the kids. I try to do different stuff with them. Matter of fact, we went to the lake this afternoon and went brim fishing with just their rods and tackle. They had a blast. I take them out to eat often. It's good times. Good luck to you too! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 You're a fortunate guy Husker!!! Enjoy these times. (Keep UPS in mind, job-wise, 3 different night shifts available. Let me know if I can make a call for you) Quote
Fisher of Men Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Congrats Huskertko, A few years back I was a vo-ag teacher on a 12 month contract. My summers were just about as busy as the school year. After my daughter constantly asking, "Daddy, when are you going to be home?" all those times, I decided to take a cut and teach Science (10 month). I'll never forget my first summer with her. My wife continued to work and we had a blast. My wife was soooo envious. Since then, God has blessed us for my wife to stay at home. She now sub's for our school 2-3 days a week, but we are both home with my 8 year old daughter all summer. Cherish this time with them. . . they grow up fast. -Fisher Quote
IllinoisBasser Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Staying at home with the the little one's was a blast. My daughter was 8 months old when the company I worked for closed. We decided it was better costwise for me to stay home for a for a little. That little while ended becoming a year.It was some good times. My daughter likes fishing shows now, and jumps at the chance to go to Bass Pro. I am now the one working and my wife stays home. It was certainly a learning experience, and it was some of the best times I have had. Enjoy the time you have at home. Quote
skillet Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Ghoti and I have something in common besides bass. It's been at least 20 yrs. since I signed on as Mr. Mom. Sometimes it was hard but most of it, I had the time of my life. Getting to know my girls so well and watching them grow was worth more than anything. I learned to cook and can keep house as well as if not better than a lot of ladies. Voluntered for school trips and day trips as often as I could. My girls and all the rest of the kids (especially little boys) thought it was great to have a man around to play with ;D. You'll do great and be sure to have as much fun as you can with them. You will remember it always and so will they.... As Ever, Skillet Quote
