Super User senile1 Posted April 30, 2007 Super User Posted April 30, 2007 So what's up with the throwing of full beer cans at Jeff Gordon? I know this isn't the first time. It is a childish act and someone could get injured, not to mention the damage it can inflict if it hits a car. According to Nascar.com, a few, very passionate Earnhardt fans are the culprits. I'm all for passionate fans but this borders on ludicrous. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted April 30, 2007 Super User Posted April 30, 2007 I know! It is such a suprise too, considering how sophisticated most NASCAR fans are Quote
Super User senile1 Posted April 30, 2007 Author Super User Posted April 30, 2007 Fourbizzle, you're funny, but let's not stereotype, my friend. I don't follow Nascar that closely myself but I thought this was a good topic for discussion. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 4bizz just LOVES pulling those punches,...lol Easy boys It's not just stupid, it's felonious. Quote

tipptruck1 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I cant stand Gordon. I also couldn't stand Earnheart. But Gordon has a little of my respcet. It took Earnhaeart over 20 years to get to 76. But it took Gordon about 15 to pass him. So don't chear for Gordon ever but he has skills. I beilve that if he can keep winning he will get more championships. But I can say for my self I wouldn't have throwen a beer on the track. Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Maybe that Gordon Guy should take that America Recycles decal off his car Quote

Super User cart7t Posted April 30, 2007 Super User Posted April 30, 2007 I've been to a few Nascar races over the years, let's just say what happened doesn't surprise me considering the type of crowd Nascar pulls and even though Jr. publicly asked his own fans NOT to do this before the race. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted April 30, 2007 Super User Posted April 30, 2007 Thats right Powells are the deal! I'm not ALL bad, just mostly... I was of course joking. What are the two things most often stereotyped with "rednecks"? NASCAR and bass fishing. I happen to be a bass fisherman. I am also a born and bred redneck. First 18 years of my life were spent on a cattle ranch in Colorado. Avid... I FREAKING LOVE it! Too funny! Quote

As for the beer-throwers, they're giving Nascar fans a bad name. If a race lasted only 10 laps I might be more interested, but I just can't see watching 200 - 250 laps of the same thing over and over for a few hours. 4bizz, you're right about the stereotypes on these things. Hunting is right there with them as well. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 1, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 1, 2007 There's no room in ANY sport for people like that! I'm glad they escorted them away in handcuffs! Hope they got fined, and then forced to sweep the track with a toothbrush! Earnhardt Sr. is a legend, no doubt, and he certainly earned his respect, but it's time to stop living in the past. Records are made to be broken. Get over it! Also, I think Gordon was extremely respectful of Earnhardts' record when he paid tribute to him last week. He could have taken the moment to be "all about me", but instead took the opportunity to acknowledge The Man and his accomplishments. Class act. Quote
frogtog Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I have been to a lot of races and have never been hit with a beer can, I always get hit with chicken bones. All ways thy to get a seat up at the top, cause if you don't they will let them bones fly. Quote

Fish Man Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 one word can describe it "childish" these fans need to realize NASCAR is a sport and in any sport records are made and broken and thats just the way it is,also if the great number 3 were still around(granted he would be hgher up on the list) woul be man enough to except that there is a driver out there better than him and that that is how things work and not want his fans to make such immiture babies of themselves, while i by no means am a fan of gordon and once was a 3 fan i must say gordon handled himslef extrememly well and he is a great dirver but hes just not somone i care for in the sport that place is for my new number 20 Quote
Super User Root beer Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 I dont follow nascar big time, but why the heck does everyone hates him that bad? I'm not a fan of nascar what so ever all I do is just check out who won that it. I dont follow drivers, I dont sit on my butt all day and watch nascar (i'd rather be fishing) but why do yall hate gordon that bad? I never got it. I can understand hatered on mike iaconelli, or terrel owens. But I've never seen jeff gordon do the things that T.O. and Ike does. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted May 1, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 1, 2007 My Father-in-law follows Nascar religiously. Every time we visit on a weekend he is watching it. I've seen enough to know that Jeff Gordon is a class act most of the time. As kwchannell89 asked, why does so many people dislike Gordon, to the point of performing a violent act? Yes, I think throwing full beer cans is a violent act. If one of these projectiles hit someone in the head, it could seriouly injure or even kill them. Earnhardt was a great racer. Gordon is obviously a great racer. Respect is due to both of them for their accomplishments. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 So what's up with the throwing of full beer cans at Jeff Gordon? Must have been served a Miller product instead of AB product. I would have thrown it in the trash but I guess this guy didnt. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 And this makes it hard for others they will ban beer eventually if it happens again .I remember going to my local straight track when i was a young boy seeing people walking around with glass bottles of beer and HUGE coolers full of them now fighting, and throwing has made it so u have to have a cooler 12 inches and no alcohol Quote
