Well after three years of being out of school it looks like iam going back this fall. I guess iam just sick and tired of hearing family naging me about it. I do know what I want to do for the rest of my life and I do need school for it. But I some times think Iam going to school just to make my family happy. So tomorrow it looks like I will be on the phone trying to figure out what I have to do. All I know is that I have to take some test. If I pass the test I don't have to take extra classes. I will let you guys know whats going on tomorrow.

Good luck, dude.  Its gonna be a lot of hard work, but I wish I had finished school when I had the chance.  I thought I didn't need a piece of paper to tell me what I know, but as it turns out, you need that piece of paper to tell OTHERS what you know...Silly me...Take my advice, finish now while you're young!

Also, PM me if there's anything I can do to help you out...

Yo tip,

Get your chit together dude.

You know what you want to do and that requires schoolin'

So you should be going for YOU and your future.

But all your talking about is being nagged into doing something you don't want to do.

Doing what people nag you to only encourages more nagging.

It's your life.

If you really know what you want then YOU have to choose to make the sacrifices to get you there.  Otherwise your just blowin' smoke.

I say this with as a parent of grown children, and as a friend.

I hope you can take it in the spirit of 'tough love"

your friend,

Just get it done. I didn't love going to school but I knew that it was necessary to do what I wanted and make a good living in my field. Bottom line. Good luck and don't get frustrated by all the admissions paperwork and crap.

Outstanding!! You will never regret this. I've been a professor for quite a while now, so if you ever need any advice, I'm just a PM away. I'd happy to help in any way I can.

Cheers,

School is a good thing. It is one thing that no one can take away from you when you are done. With the economy the way it is higher education is almost a must now a days. Best of luck and it will be over before you know it.

You'll be glad you did it in the end. School is a great experience, plus it's getting to the point where having a degree really does make things easier for you later.

ghoti, where and what do you teach?

My dad didn't go to college.  That is the main reason we are in such a bind right now.  He has a good job for someone who doesn't have a degree, but it isn't what he wants.  He works an hour+ from here and has long hours on top of that.  It doesn't pay what he wants.  We got into a bind when we had to support 2 $400,000 plus houses for three years.  Add four kids to that, and his job no longer makes what we want.  As why I am stuck buying my own fishing stuff.  (it ain't all bad, i get jobs at 14 and it puts me on a better track to future life.  Also keeps ya humble)  And, with his long hours and long commute, he has very little time to get done what needs to be done at the house.  That runs right over on me, so I average less than one fishing trip a month.  Zero fish a trip.  Go to school.  You don't know what S*** will happen later in life, so be prepared.  We wouldn't be having these problems had we not owned both houses so long.  He never knew that would happen.  Don't put your family in our position.

with all due respect...if you can own 2 $400,000 houses i think your doing very well. but i dont know all the details so,

but anyways, i saw a statistic the other day that said that college grads make almost 2 million more in their lives than non-college grads....do you realize how much fishing stuff you can buy with that?  thats like 40 $50,000 rangers....yeah i guess ill go to college

Your family wants what is best for you!  Do it now before you start your own family!  It sucks when you work 50-60 hours a week, have a house, a wife, kids and are going to school 3-5 nights a week to obtain a college degree!  Good luck and if you need any advice, let us know...  :)

Great news about going back to school. I have had a few friends drop out and my nephew as well. They have been nagged to death as well. But when I talk to them they honestly wish they would have finished, but just didn't want to give in to all the pressure. Pressure is a part of life, and sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and do whats right. I don't think you will be sorry in any way, shape, or form from going back to school.

I hope you figure out what you want to do in life and it comes true for you. I wish you all the luck and am proud to see your going back.

You know muddy not to sound like a smart a-- kid here. But I hope I can work intill the day I die. I cant even stand being off for more then a couple of days. As I told a friend last night after school and I get a job Iam going to take 500 a month and split it to 250 and put them in savings. One is going to be for when and if I retire. The other one Is going to be for a house.

How about a $1,000,000 more in income with a college degree than without?

It is a proven fact.

Get that degree; get a good career; and pay a lot of FICA! ;)

A college degree is not essential for a better job, but in all honesty, it definitely makes you more marketable.  Take my word for it.  It will seperate you from the pack.  Not only that, but the contacts that you will make in school usually help out as well.

Good luck Tipp!

I went up to the school and took a entrance test today. I bombed the test hard core. So I have to go back next week and take a test for classes I will have to take this summer. So it looks like I will be going back to school within a few weeks. But school won't be over for me in a year. After a year working auto body Iam going to try to get ase certifed. I really want to become ase certifed. The main reason better jobs and more money. Right after school I will be making 10-15 dolllers a hour out of school. After I become ase certifed I can make about 15-20 in a few years. So I really need to get done with school. I have a ranger z20 picked out.
