SouthMiamiBassMan Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 BUY YOUR OFF NOW!!! They are back and they had a buffet on my legs and feet > ! I was out on Sunday as the sun was setting, and found a new little dranage canal by my house that had bass, FW snappers, gar, and a HUGE cat fish that looked to be at least 3ft long. I tried my best to sitck it out and stay fishing, but I was wearing shorts and flip flops and after an hour of it, I couldn't take it anymore. These bites are worse then those of mosqiutos because you have no idea how many times you were bitten until the next day and then the bites . They are so bad, I look and feel like I have chicken pox on my legs and feet. I've been using rubbing alchol & Benedryl itch, but i'm still DYING HERE!!! Does anybody have any sugestions on what will stop this itching!!! Quote

I will be using OFF before I go out now. The tricks that would stop the itching from other bug bites don't seem to work with the no-seum bites. Quote
AlvinAmerica Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 From my fomer life in the desert and soaking in many desert hot creeks and hot springs I would sometimes be eaten up with hot springs mites (an aquatic chigger). After the fact, good old Calamine lotion, applied liberally, takes care of the burning/itching. As far as chiggers and no-see-ums, I have read that some folks are strapping a flea collar around each ankle before hittin the woods. Even the extra-strength bug juice I find to be wanting. I can apply it liberally and within seconds have the flies and no-sees landing on my skin. The only truly effective intervention that I am confident in is a fuel-air bomb, or a thermonuclear device... but, then there goes me, and it would certainly ruin a good day fishing. Take care, Alvin Quote
msmonroe Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 We don't have no-seums like you do in FL, but we do have mosquitos the size of small aircraft. I use stuff called After Bite. It's a liquid that comes in a tube with an applicator doo-hicky at the end. It gives me pretty much instant relief as soon as it touches my skin. I would highly recommend it. Benadryl makes a similiar product, but it doesn't work as well. IMHO - Matt Quote
FL_fisher Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 pour hot water on it, as hot as you can handle this works for me even with fire ant bites try it. Quote
Zonked Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I use stuff called After Bite. Thats what I use as well, its basically ammonia & alcohol. It works like a charm though. Aloe Vera might bring you some relief, but if you're truly hardcore you could just try bleach. Quote
FL_fisher Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 if you are hardcore pour water so hot it slightly bruns you skin. If you do this you will not have to do it again untill you get new bites. This is what I do. Quote
georgiabassfisherman Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 i tell u what go buy u some Repel 100 it find the 100% Deet i garuntee u no bug even a fly will land on you they may buzz around u but wont land they cant eat the stuff.just whatever u do do not spray it in your mouth cuz u will puke out a lung and dont get it on your reel or rod or a pepsi can cuz it will take off the paint or whatever else i have had it take the varnish off of guns so be carefull with it but for some reason it doenst stain clothes. Syfer420 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I have no advice for your bites but i know to watch the products with deet because i heard if you get in anywhere near your hands or bait or anything else in direct contact with the fish it will detract not only the bugs but the fish as well. BTW dont you love these florida bugs? :-/ Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I only put spray on my legs and head. The "deet" in bug juice has a negitive impact on bass. I read a article on that and it said that it (and a few other sents) puts the bass in "no-eat mode". So if your buddy is catching too many fish, spray his tackle box while he isnt looking. Hey Zonked, your sig cracks me up every time I see it! ;D ;D ;D Quote
