RottManK9 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Yesterday I was involved in a motorcycle accident. As I approached an intesection ( I had the green light) a car driven by an elderly woman was in the turn lane on the opposite side of the intersection. I slowed down to 5 mph under the posted speed limit as I approached and just as I go on top of the pressure plate for the light's she pulled out in front of me cutting me off. I hit both brakes, locked them up and dumped the bike. As I was doing my best rolly polly impression on the ground my bike hit the rear of her car as it was sliding across the road. I've got road rash on the left side of my face, on both of my forarms and my left knee and hip. No broken bones but my bike was banged up pretty good. I haven't seen the bike but my riding buddy went and took a look at it. My windshield is broke the engine guard with my highway pegs on it are all jacked up, my pipes are bent to hell and my left mirror and turn signals are broke. No word yet on if the forks are bent. All in all about $2500 worth of damage to the bike so far. Here's my beautiful face as of this morning! Quote
skillet Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Little old ladies in big sedans are the bane of existance for folks on scooters. I have heard an awful lot of wreck stories start with "there was this little old lady". Glad there were no broken bones. Road rash hurts like H**L for a while but not usually permanent! Hope the forks or frame aren't bent and she had insurance... As Ever, Skillet Quote

And let me tell you what! I did hit the ground with my head but it felt like I was wearing a sponge on my head! It sucked up all the impact, and I didn't even get a head-ache! It did it's job well. You should see the left lense of my sunglasses! Quote

edbassmaster Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Good job man. I spilled my R1 pretty bad too. I had my leather jacket on and helmet but I took a nice chunk out of my knee and it got badly infected, green knees are ugly! I use to carry my back pack with my two piece rod in it all the time. I miss it. Must of been a cruiser...half helmet? Be safe bro!! Quote

justfishin Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I rode for about 15 years until 1983. To make a long story short. I was on a back road went around a turn on this very narrow road and met a van head on. I broke 13 bones, my female passenger broke both arms and my Candy Apple Red 1981 Harley was toast, to say the least. I have not been on a bike since. Quote
The Unabasser Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 as a former rider myself I'm glad that you are going to be ok...the bike can always be fixed but your body can't... Quote

Guest avid Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Well, it's a few days after the accident so I guess your ok, but don't you think you should have gone to the hospital? Head injuries should be checked out. Glad your ok. Quote
RottManK9 Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 I did go to the hospital, right after it happened. In an ambulance! FUN FUN FUN! It happened Sat, it's now Tuesday, AND I"M SORE AS HELL!!!!!!!!! I found out yesterday she is 85 and had NO License. The insurance company called and wanted me to meet them today at the shop to cut me a check on the spot.....yeah right! We'll see what happens. Quote
Guest avid Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Like I said, glad your ok. sounds like your brain is working fine. "Meet us at the shop and we'll cut you a check on the spot" Yeah, they were hoping you were still in a daze. Or maybe they thought the bike you fell off of was really the turnip truck. ;D Quote
drakedeming Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 best advice i got about an accident was after my first one. "cars can be fixed people cannot" Quote
Super User senile1 Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 I haven't read the statistics lately but for the better part of two decades into the 90s, most accidents between a car and a motorcycle were caused by the driver of the car. Many of these were left turns in front of oncoming motorcycles, just like yours, RottmanK9. I'm glad you're OK. Quote
