Super User 5bass Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 UFC 70 is over with and Cro Cop got knocked out cold by a head kick in the first round.....how ironic is that? Gonzaga had him on the mat pretty much the whole first round but the action got stale and the ref stood them up. Shortly after standing up Gonzaga caught him with a SOLID head kick that instantly folded Cro Cop up like a cheap tent. And he was out for a while. Gonzaga will now fight the champ, Randy Couture for the title. The Bisping fight was pretty good....he was really pumped, got floored by a knee to the head but worked thru that and eventually won by ref stoppage in the 2nd. The Arlovski fight was a real snoozer. I'm glad this one was free. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 How the hell did Cro Cop walk out of the ring? His anke/leg looked sick. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 Cro cop is great but he seems to get KO unexpectedly , him going to ground at first took a lot out of him he really needs to learn ground defense and more offense so when he does get up he is not shaken he took quite a few head shots from Gonzagas elbow on the ground and we all no that makes ya wobble when and if u get up, When Gonz said he wanted to stand and fight im thinking WOW what a mistake Then again never ever underestimate your opponent FIRST mistake in any fight all downhill after that !! Super User 5bass Posted April 22, 2007 Author Super User Posted April 22, 2007 How the hell did Cro Cop walk out of the ring? His anke/leg looked sick. No kidding. His leg and ankle will be hurting tomorrow. Along with his head. That head kick landed clean and was rock solid, probably one of the best ones I've ever seen.....BAM!! Lights out!! Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 And thats Cro cops finishing move... You no he is goin to watch that VID for a long time and assess HIS biggest mistake id ever seen him make>I have seen all of cro cops fights and his opponents NEVER take him standing>He got a reality check tonite that he is not the only guy with a devastating KO to the head !! Quote
edbassmaster Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 How the hell did Cro Cop walk out of the ring? His anke/leg looked sick. Dude, I was gonna say the same thing. Gashes to the head and blood never bother me, but that ankle made me sick to my stomach. And how the heck did he walk out on it?????? Gonzagas dominated CroCop on the ground...than finished him off standing...brilliant technique and strength!! Quote
Fishing Doug Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 That was a massive headkick....but when you stand there with your hands down, you have it coming. I agree with you guys on his leg/foot. How did that not break his leg/ankle? Sure, those guys are in great condition and have major flexibility, but it looked like it simply broke by the angle his foot was turned.... Quote
Hawgin Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 It seems to be a pattern with Cro Cop. He can get right on the verge of a title shot and he drops the ball. He lost to Fedor fairly easily, and he knocked out by Randleman. I'm starting to think the "legend" of Cro Cop is more like a myth. Bisping looked pretty good. I'm not sure his style will work against the top guys, but he sure is fun to watch. Quote

I use to think no man on earth could beat him. Quote
Crabcakes Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I also wonder how he didn't break his ankle and tear every tendon in it as well..... that was terrifying. I have to say the UFC was probably not too pleased with the result. Cro Cop had his reputation from pride and was generally very marketable especially in europe. For him to go down in his debut (and to be so dominated) sorta throws a wrench in the UFCs plans to make him their next star. In the long run Gonzaga may be a star but in the short run it was probably dissapointing for he UFC brass. The Arlovksi fight stunk... I am also glad that one was free. Bisping looked ok... I thought the kimura would get him but i think he wore elvis down so much he was able to muscle out. I'd like to see him fight again Quote
Fishin Phil Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 He still thinks he's invincible after winning the OWGP. He was overconfident and underestimated Gonzaga and it cost him. I would like to see Gonzaga/Big Nog. Probably an awesome BJJ matchup and we would get a feel if Gonzaga is the real deal or not. Arlovski/Werdum(who beat Aleks E.) dissapointed me, and apparently Machidas fight was so boring they didn't air it. Bisping looked like an animal too. Overall I thought it was ok considering it was free. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 23, 2007 Super User Posted April 23, 2007 Im not looking for excuses for cro cop but i think gonzaga got lucky HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW he knocked him out but still pounded his face about 4 times before the ref split it i have seen the REF call a fight when a guy was down GETTING HIT IN THE FACE without any injury at all!!! And it Pi**ES off the guy on the floor.. The SYlvia vs Arlovski fight was one of them!!! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 24, 2007 Author Super User Posted April 24, 2007 HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW he knocked him out but still pounded his face about 4 times before the ref split it They are trained to fight until they either hear the bell or the ref pulls 'em off. Extra punches on someone thats down/out happens quite frequently. I can tell you that if I had Cro Cop on the mat....I'd make sure he wouldnt get back up. I'd be willing to bet thats what Gonzaga was thinking too. As far as the lucky part....I dont agree with that. If you watch the replay in slow mo, it clearly shows what happened. Gonzaga knew he was throwing a head kick....Cro Cop DIDN'T.....he thought it was a body kick, dropped his arms down to protect his ribs and BAM! NAP TIME! Cro Cop made a mistake and he paid for it.....there are no excuses. Gonzaga vs. Couture will be a great fight. Randy even said that he would rather fight Cro Cop. Quote
Fishin Phil Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Gonzaga vs. Couture will be a great fight. Randy even said that he would rather fight Cro Cop. Gotta agree with that. Gonzaga seemed naturally big and real strong. I seriously would not be surprised if he beats Couture. Quote

If he was executing any kind of MA kick he would have followed through instead of letting his leg hang on CRO cops shoulder... either brought his leg back fast or kept going through the motion BTW you can also tap out or the other side throws in a towel for a loss!!! Quote
Hawgin Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Gonzaga knew exactly what he was doing, and he executed it perfectly. In listening to the broadcast they said he followed the exact same game plan that Fedor did to defeat Cro Cop, and I went back and watched that fight, and they were dead on about it. He didn't need to follow through with the kick. It served it's purpose, and I think he will be your next heavy weight champ. I don't think he's the best HW in the division, but I think he's the right type of fighter to beat Randy. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 24, 2007 Super User Posted April 24, 2007 This bisping guy is one to watch also and if big nog fights anymore he could be a force also ,I heard he is going blind in 1 eye .Arlovski is underrated his stance and movement are pretty cool .Like what is said in the other post cro cop is way to easy to predict and if his opponents watches his fights its easy to capitalize on his mistakes>cro cop needs to look for more then just a LHK to the head for a win WE all know thats what he will TRY to do now.I see cro cop not coming back for about 6 months as he will learn more and not just rely on his signature move cause we no and he knows that everyone knows thats his gameplan for now.But i do see him coming back with a bang and a surprise for the next man... WAR FEDOR Quote
Guest hibachi Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I'm so glad to see that there are others here who like UFC. Personally it is my favorite sport to watch. I'd rather see a good UFC fight than anything else, although Alabama football is a very close second. Bisping is the man. Quote
Fishin Phil Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 WAR FEDOR QFT and WAR KANG (second favorite fighter) Quote
razyrsharpe Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 CroCop hit the mat like he had been shot! awesome, most brutal KO i have EVER seen. Quote
Bream Master Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Like some of you guys said, Cro-Cop seems to underestimate some of his opponents, especially if they don't neccessarily have the best record (Randleman) or are unknown to the American fight fans, like Gonzaga. I was shocked. What do you guys think is next for him? I don't know. I would like to see him fight AA though. Quote
