Hookem Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 That little ole band from Texas partying on the patio with 3000 friends. 8-) 8-) 8-) [img width=350 height=262]http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u15/Txbassman/CIMG0990.jpg [img width=350 height=262]http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u15/Txbassman/CIMG1047.jpg They played mostly old stuff, a bit of Texas rockin blues! Next up is Leon Russell this Saturday. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 20, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 20, 2007 I saw them during the Eliminator tour. Good stuff! Love the old tunes! Quote
Fisher of Men Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I saw them during the Eliminator tour. Good stuff! Love the old tunes! I've seen them twice, once in Reunion Arena, and the other in the Cotton Bowl (along with Colin James, Steve Miller Band, and Santana). Glenn, I have to agree that their older music (pre-synthesizer) is their best. Hookem, I'd like to see them in a smaller venue like that. One of the best concerts I've ever been to was The Fabulous Thunderbirds in college. They played a small concert hall (around 1,000 people). We sat on the front row. You could hear Jimmy Vaughn's guitar buzzing. It was pretty great! Quote
Zel Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I can't believe I haven't seen ZZTop in concert. Some of the groups I've seen in concert are (and there are others, but I won't admit to like Madonna): 10CC, Aerosmith, Beach Boys, Billy Preston, Black Sabbath, Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springstein and the E Street Band, Bryan Adams, Climax Blues Band, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, David Ruffin, The Dobbie Brothers, Edgar Winter, Eric Clapton, The Turtles, Foghat, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, George Harrison, George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers, Hall & Oates, J.Giles Band, Jethro Tull, Joan Baez, Judas Priest, Kansas, Kenny Loggins, Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, Peter Noone, Phill Collins, Ravi Shankar, REO Speedwagon, Santana, The Cars, The Four Tops, The Hooters, The Pretenders, Tina Turner, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Weather Report and Yes... BUT I HAVEN'T SEEN ZZTOP... I'LL HAVE TO CHANGE THAT. Quote
Hookem Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Fisher, The name of the venue is called The Backyard. Its an oudoor ampitheatre, sort of. Last month, I caught "The Last of the Breed" tour there. Willie, Merle, Ray Price and Asleep at the Wheel. This was the 4th time to see ZZ. My last time before this was in 1985 in the Astrodome with Sanata, Joe Ely and assorted others. Edit: The latest song they played was "Sharp Dressed Man". Quote

I'm not a real big Willie fan, but Merle Haggard and Asleep at the Wheel were probably a treat. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 21, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 21, 2007 That has GOT to be the first time I've seen Judas Priest and REO Speedwagon in the same sentence! ;D Quote

Super User Catt Posted April 22, 2007 Super User Posted April 22, 2007 Yea I did, many an up start band played Gilley's during the 70s & 80s from Country to Southern Rock. Gilley's Club was the sensation of an era: the "world's largest honky-tonk.", until burned to the ground in 1989. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Many say the Kim Wilson and jimmy Vaughn were at the top of the art form during those shows I am glad you got to see that ! Quote
