Hey fellow Tech-savvy bass resourcers,

I have a question.  I recently upgraded to the Motorola Razr camera/video phone (not sure of model #), maroon color with MP3 player.  I also bought a 512 MB memory card and installed it.  When I got home, I tried to sync some music to it from Windows Media, but to no avail.  It looked like it was sent to the phone, but when I tried to retrieve it, I couldn't find it (even tried the audio player on the phone, but that only showed ring tones).  So, that's where I'm at.  I understand that you can buy some stereo headphones that hook up through the phone's USB port, but is there additional software to load/settings on the phone, etc. that would help?  I'd sure like to listen to some music from it, but I can't.

Any help would be appreciated,

Fisher

The V3t (your phone) can only play songs with a bit rate of 128 kbps (kilo bits per second). If the song is a variable bit rate file, or larger than 128 kbps, the song will load on to the memory card fine, but it will not be played by the phone.

Also, if the song was purchased via iTunes (which would make it a locked AAC format song) it will not play on the V3t.

The bit rate can usually be found when playing the song on a computer, the player lists the bit rate.

Hope that helps!

Well. . . uh. . . I think. . . thanks, Glenn!! :-[

I'm embarrassed that I really DON'T know what you're talking about (and I don't think I'd benefit from an explanation), but I will look to see that the songs are 128 kbps. I'm trying to load them from my computer (where they were loaded from CD's). Is there anyway to convert them to 128 kbps?

Pardon me for being so tech-challenged. I'm doing pretty well with the computer now, but with this cell phone I feel like a woman in front of the auto mechanic. (Well, you know, this "thingy" is making a "bumpity-bump" noise while that "thing-a-ma-jig" over there has come loose.) :-/

Did you run into my wife at the garage?!? ;D

I have one of the older MP3 phones ..... kind of.  They call it an MP3 phone, but it will only play WMA files.  So before I put songs on my phone I have to convert them to WMA files.

Don't know if that applies to you or not.

Thanks KU!  I don't know if that applies to the situation at hand, but I'm sure Glenn can enlighten me (or confuse me)   :-?.

Hey, Glenn,

I checked and my music is saved at 64 kbps.  Is there anyway to convert?

I'm not a big fan of Howard's Forums.  There's a lot of "experts" there dishing out wrong or incomplete information.  You can end up ruining your phone following some of the advice there, and then the carrier will not honor any warranties.  And the ones claiming to have "insider information"?  HA!!!  What a joke!

So... be very careful following any advice regarding changing the settings on phone.

For encoding audio files, Howard's Forums isn't a great source of info anyway.  They're all about phones, not audio encoding.

Thanks for the heads up, Glenn.  We're giving state standardized tests this week at school anyway and I haven't had time to look up the site.  I'll probably end up letting one of my Jr. High kids load the phone up for me.  :D  They seem to know more than I do.  Unfortunately they don't seem to apply that effort in Science though.
