zara spook Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Just wondering if any of you guys hunt morel mushrooms. I wanted to know if anyone has found any yet. I went out Saturday and found 2 small ones but I fear the weather may be against me this year. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Last time I went mushroom hunting was in the 60's I got in big trouble after my best friends head melted and the Lizards came out of his neck singing the Doors SOFT PARADE >>I kept calling the ER doctor Jerry b/c I thought he was Jerry Garcia Quote
flyphisher # Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I quit when i got out of college. Had some interesting days on the 26 acre lake i lived on, to say the least. Quote
GatorBK Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 : I think you two above me were gathering a different kind of shrooms than Zara is hunting ;D I am not in morel country right now Zara but they should be up . I used to get lots in NC . I hunted old apple orchards I would find them in the shaded areas in tall grass . When you find one in the woods look for what kind of trees are near it. And when ever you get in a stand of similar trees look aroud them. I used to find lots near walnut trees in the woods . Good Hunting they are mighty tasty Quote

I've found a lot around elm trees and old apples myself but I am thinking it is still too cold in PA to find them. I was just wondering if the temperature had anything to do with it or not. Quote
justfishin Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I look forward to hunting them every year. Morrels are one of my favorite foods. I live in a mushroom paradise. They grow all around my woods. I have three acres and plenty of shrooms. Nothing better than a pan or venison tenderloin simmered with green peppers, red peppers and sweet onions along with morrels rolled in egg and flour and fried in butter, UMMMMMMM Goooooood. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted April 18, 2007 Super User Posted April 18, 2007 I am a forester so I am in the woods about four days out of the work week. I got to tell ya, I see my fair share of mushrooms. After the crazy weather we have been having I don't know about this year though. We need a warm week of rain then sun for a few days and they may start popping out. I hope so, I sure like them. ;D Quote
GatorBK Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Zara you need few nights of 50 degrees and above so they come up good Quote
