kayl. Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 So horrible...I can't say anything else. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved; I can't even begin to imagine... Another problem with things like this is that anti-gun groups use them as propaganda for new gun control laws. Criminals don't listen to laws! When will society wake up and realize that gun-free zones, where a lawful CCW holding citizen cannot carry, are sociopath friendly zones? Quote
Guest avid Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I understand rage. I understand rage that makes you want to kill. but I don't understand this. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 17, 2007 Super User Posted April 17, 2007 Ok so I'm hearing that this originated from a fight with his girlfriend. What happened in our society that people can't deal with anything bad anymore? I don't think people used to go on shooting rampages or kill themselves when bad things happened to them, what has changed that? Why do some people go absolutely nuts when they experience something bad that happens to so many other people with no incident? Why can't people deal with things? Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 17, 2007 Super User Posted April 17, 2007 This has affected lots of people around me....we're just up 81 from Blacksburg about 35 minutes away. It is truly a sad, sad day. :-[ Quote

NEPAfishfinder Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 My prayers and thoughts to all those lost and their families... I read on the news 31 died and 22 injured...plus they found the suspect dead at the scene, I guess the crazy nut killed/injured the students and then took his own life... It's tragedies like this that make us look like an uncontrolled country and therefore that's why terrorists like Iraqis invade us and attack us. And to think I may apply at VT in the next year or two...sheeesh! I would hate for this to happen to me if I go there!! > Hopefully this doesn't ruin your perception of Virginia Tech. This could have happened anywhere. It was really only a matter of time something like this happened. The fact it happened it in such in quinte town like Blacksburg makes it more shocking. I went to Temple which is in a really bad section of Philadelphia and there was a fear that something could happen due to the surroundings but the thought of own of our own doing something never crossed my mind. But it could have just as easily happened there. VTech is a great school with a great student body. I have to believe this will only strengthen the bond there. Quote

It just irks me to hear people screaming for more gun control on national radio not even hours after the shooting stopped. What happened to respect for the innocent people killed and their families? Super User Long Mike Posted April 17, 2007 Super User Posted April 17, 2007 I didn't get home until after 7:00 so missed the news. The first I heard of the carnage was Muddy's post. It makes me sick to my stomach. Quote
zara spook Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 What a horrible tragedy. Being from PA I am still reeling from the Amish shooting but I wonder how on Earth anyone can justify this to themselves. Prayers to those affected. Quote
jomatty Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 im not too far away in charlottesville and this is incredibly sad. only good thing is the way tradgedies bring folks together. i had a long talk with my mom and some other family members yesterday and we really dont talk very much. puts things in perspective and makes you want to be close to your loved ones. matt Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 This is unreal and very sad. Those victims and their families are in my heart and prayers. Quote
squid Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 WOW I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT ALL THIS.....STILL HARD TO BELIEVE IT HAPPENED THE WAY IT DID. A TRAGIC DAY FOR THOSE INVOVLED...MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO ALL WHO ARE INVOVLED WITH THIS ISSUE. Quote
logger Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Who would have ever believed that being a teacher or student at any level would be so dangerous. I am a high school teacher and we just had a lockdown meeting with the police department last week about what to do when a shooter comes in the building. In their words "We are instructed to have this meeting because there will be a shooter at some point. We are not talking if, we are talking when." That's pretty sobering especially in a small northern michigan community with a school of 300 kids. Its disheartening what is happening to our society. My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy. Quote

My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy. If you want a short simple plan on how to deal with a wack person with a gun, all teachers should carry a gun. There have been several instances where teachers who had guns (secretly since they are not allowed at schools) stopped nut jobs, from doing some massive shootout. And no one fired anything, or anyone was hurt kid just dropped his gun when someone else was armed. Quote
