alhuff Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Well, I was laid off from my job this week in nothern VA but the good Lord helped me out with another one in Wilson, NC. We will be in Wilson for about 6 months and then on to the Raleigh area. I look forward to hooking up with some of the guys down there for some fishing this summer. Tight Lines, Alfred Huff Quote
frogtog Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Wilson is a nice place to live. It's close to a lot of good fishing. Raleigh is like wellll living in the middle of New York, the traffic is awesome,it is a big town with little roads. However they are getting a little better. There is some good lakes around Raleigh also like Harris, Falls, Kerr, Jorden and Gaston. Welcom to North Carolina man. Hope you like basketball. ;D Quote
Bream Master Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Welcome to NC. Around where I live, there is no good fishing. Nothing like TN. I guess you could consider Lake Norman okay. Frogtog, I'll have to give some of those spots you mentioned a try. I go to school in Greensboro and a couple hours of driving for fishing is fine with me. Quote
alhuff Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Thanks guys, I look forward to fishing each and every hole I can find and will make it my mission to do so. ;D ;D ;D Later, Alfred Quote
flippin4it. Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Al, sorry to here about the lay off. Hope the grass is greener on the other side. Quote
alhuff Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 Thanks flip, only time will tell. Alfred Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Hey alhuff, welcome to NC. Wilson is nice and think you will like Raleigh. Nice thing about Raleigh, is that you can be on the Ocean in 2 hours, Wilmington, if you like. Or, couple of hours you can be on a stream in the mountains. There are some nice lakes around. Also, you can head east from Wilson and hit the Roanoke river for some good striped bass fishing - something I have been wanting to do for a while now. Sorry, you got laid off. You know how our God works though and sure he will see you through. Take care, Eddie Quote
alhuff Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 Thanks for the welcome Eddie. I do look forward to heading to the coast and do some fishing. Alfred Quote
Water Dog Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Welcome to NC. You will probably like Wilson better than Raleigh. A lot of people live close to Raleigh and commute rather than live there. My son lives in Cary which is one of several little towns surrounding Raleigh. Traffic can be a hassle so you need to do some research before the time comes to move. If you are on the Cary side of Raleigh, you are within 30 minutes of Jordan Lake. Like the boys said you have good highways which can carry you to a variety of good fishing in a couple of hours. Fun is where you find it! Enjoy NC ! ;D Quote
-Drums- Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Hey Al - sorry, I just got around to seeing this post. Sorry to hear about the layoff man, bummer. But, I think you'll see the grass will definitely be greener when you get down there. I lived in Raleigh (and Cary) for a few years and loved every minute of it. There's plenty of great fishing down there. Harris, Falls, Jordan are the big water (with Harris being the baby of those three). There's also a number of smaller electric-only lakes like you're used to up here, and that you'll find offer some good fishing too. Also, despite what some of the previous (and clearly well intentioned) posts said, the traffic--while an annoyance--is NOTHING like you've experienced up in here in DC. It's funny, because when I lived there I thought the traffic was awful (I-40 between Raleigh & Durham), but now that I've suffered through DC metro traffic for several years, I only wish for what I had to deal with back then. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed the few times I got to wet a line with you, and wish the best of luck to you and your family. Enjoy your new locale! Quote
Fishin49er Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Welcome to NC, I like you'll like it here. On top of the lakes already mentioned, if you don't mind driving a little there are quite a few nice lakes around the Charlotte area. Quote
