I would do that in an instant.  Like mentioned not only is it the money but the adventure of it all.  I'm sure theres an adrenalin rush aspect to it also.  Anymore since they implemented the qouta system its very hard to get on the boats unless your friend/family/ or an experienced crab fisherman.

swinging a sledge hammer for 4 hrs in 2 degree weather isn't my kind of "adventure",lol.

You need to remember that when the 1/2 hr show is over, they are still fishing.  20 hrs on, 4 off.  Sub zero temps and hard labor the whole time.  One slip can kill you.  No thanks.

go overboard and you have a 1 in 1000 chance of living, IF YOU ARE PLUCKED OUT!!

NO THANKS!

hmmmm......20 on 4 off sounds militarily familiar....in 120 degree heat....One wrong move can get you poped in the melon....and I can gauranetee you will never feel so ALIVE!!!!!  Im all in I would go in a heartbeat!!  Im not saying I would ever go AGAIN, but I would have to give it everything once!

I've been watching since it started. Great show but man those guys take a beating!

Anyone think it was better when they could fish for the entire season and not have a quota?

With the quota that Alaska Fish and Game sets for each boat, they are done when they hit their mark. It used to be that they could fish till the crab seasons deadline and bring in as much as they could catch. I know they work long, painful hours now but when they didn't have a quota they worked even more.

I really do like the show as well, and yes, I liked the first season best before the quotas.  I've got the new episode recorded and haven't had time to watch it this week.  As for working on a crab boat in the Bering Sea. . . I think I'll pass.

My favorites are the Hanson's boat and the Maverick (unless that kid takes over this season).  Then, my favorite will be Sig's.

The quota isnt per boat, its overall.  they set an ammount of pounds of crab, then turn the boats loose.  the boats report back their estimated catch, and from there they estimate when the season wil be closed.  So it is still the best man gets the lions share of the quota, but I agree would be much better without it....

Sig is the man.
