Valascus Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I have seen every episode and have my DVR set to record all new episodes. Awesome show...could you get me on one of those boats? Not a chance. Quote
RecMar8541 Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Are you guys serious? Id go in a heartbeat. Not for the money but for the freeking adventure!! Come on whats wrong with you couch potatos? LOL!! Quote
Deuceu72 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I've seen every episode twice! That is such a good show but you'd never catch(sorry bout the pun) me out there no matter what they paid me. I cant deal with cold. I deal even worse with no sleep..........Dont think I'll be crabbing anytime soon! ;D Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 4, 2007 Super User Posted April 4, 2007 How about the $5k food bill that one boat rang up.....ridiculous!!! Those guys are freakin nuts. I am glad someone is out there catching those tasty little critters, it just wont ever be me!!! Wayne Quote
bassin_man Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 That has been my favorite show since it started. Im hooked lol. I wonder who the tradgedy is this time? I watched the clips and it looked bad. Would any of you guys be willing to do that job? I would do that in an instant. Like mentioned not only is it the money but the adventure of it all. I'm sure theres an adrenalin rush aspect to it also. Anymore since they implemented the qouta system its very hard to get on the boats unless your friend/family/ or an experienced crab fisherman. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 swinging a sledge hammer for 4 hrs in 2 degree weather isn't my kind of "adventure",lol. You need to remember that when the 1/2 hr show is over, they are still fishing. 20 hrs on, 4 off. Sub zero temps and hard labor the whole time. One slip can kill you. No thanks. go overboard and you have a 1 in 1000 chance of living, IF YOU ARE PLUCKED OUT!! NO THANKS! Quote
RecMar8541 Posted April 5, 2007 Author Posted April 5, 2007 hmmmm......20 on 4 off sounds militarily familiar....in 120 degree heat....One wrong move can get you poped in the melon....and I can gauranetee you will never feel so ALIVE!!!!! Im all in I would go in a heartbeat!! Im not saying I would ever go AGAIN, but I would have to give it everything once! Quote
bassnleo Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I've been watching since it started. Great show but man those guys take a beating! Anyone think it was better when they could fish for the entire season and not have a quota? With the quota that Alaska Fish and Game sets for each boat, they are done when they hit their mark. It used to be that they could fish till the crab seasons deadline and bring in as much as they could catch. I know they work long, painful hours now but when they didn't have a quota they worked even more. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I really do like the show as well, and yes, I liked the first season best before the quotas. I've got the new episode recorded and haven't had time to watch it this week. As for working on a crab boat in the Bering Sea. . . I think I'll pass. My favorites are the Hanson's boat and the Maverick (unless that kid takes over this season). Then, my favorite will be Sig's. Quote
RecMar8541 Posted April 5, 2007 Author Posted April 5, 2007 The quota isnt per boat, its overall. they set an ammount of pounds of crab, then turn the boats loose. the boats report back their estimated catch, and from there they estimate when the season wil be closed. So it is still the best man gets the lions share of the quota, but I agree would be much better without it.... Sig is the man. Quote
